Some promotion issues decided in AIB All Ireland League.

Old Belvedere and Young Munster are promoted to Division 1A of the AIB All Ireland League with Lansdowne promoted from Division 2 and Queens University winning promotion from the Third Division.

Cork Constitution have extended their gap at the top of Division 1A with a 17-10 win over Shannon in the top of the table clash at Temple Hill. Two penalties by Jeremy Manning and a try by Frank Cogan had the home side 11-0 ahead at half time. Shannon rallied with a try from Luke O’Dea and a penalty and conversion from David O’Donovan to leave a point between the sides.
Manning secured the points for the home side with a third penalty and drop goal.

U.L. Bohemian look destined for Division 1B next season after they lost a dramatic tie at Thomond Park 32-14 to Dolphin.
A try by Rory Kenneally and a penalty by Barry Keeshan gave Dolphin an 8-7 interval lead. Kieran O’Gorman scored a try for the home side and Danny Kelly converted.
A try by Danny Riordan converted by Kelly look enough to give Bohes the points, but in a final flourish Dolphin ran in three converted tries from Sam Cronin, Danny Barnes and were awarded a penalty try. Keeshan converted all three and had earlier kicked a drop goal.

Facing relegation a few weeks ago Garryowen are still in with a chance of making the semi finals after their 15-14 away win over Clontarf. Garryowen raced into a 15-0 lead with tries from Ronan O’Mahony and Conan Doyle and a conversion and penalty by Conor Murray. They had to with stand a late rally from the home side to secure the points.

Young Munster ensured that they and Old Belvedere were promoted from Division 1B after they ended U.C.C hopes of promotion at the Mardyke with a 14-12 victory.
Andrew Burke opened the scoring with a try for the students but two penalties by Alan Kingsley had the Limerick side 6-5 ahead at the break.
Kingsley kicked a third penalty and a try by Shane Hassett put “The Cookies” into a commanding lead. Willie Walsh kept the home side in touch with a try which Burke converted.

Highfield put up a credible performance at the RDS holding Second Division leaders Lansdowne to three points. David Hewitt’s penalty proved enough to give the Dubliners the points and also assured their place in Division 1B next season.

Clonakilty made it four wins out of four with a 16-14 away win over Bective Rangers. The West Cork side were cruising to victory as the game entered injury time with a 16-0 lead, thanks to a try from Noel O’Sullivan and a conversion and three penalties by Kurt Morath. Two converted tries saw Bective close the gap to two points and than with the last kick of the game the home side saw a drop goal effort just miss the target.

Old Crescent eased their relegation troubles with a 12-10 home win over second placed DLSP at Rosbrien. Mark Woods kicked three penalties and a drop goal for the home side.

Thomond find themselves back in the relegation battle after they lost 23-15 away to Corinthians. David Foley and Ger Fitzpatrick scored tries for the Limerick side and Declan Cusack kicked a conversion and penalty.

It was a bad day for the Munster sides in the Third Division with all three losing. Midleton having lost top spot to Queens University last week lost their unbeaten record at Chambers Park, when relegation threatened Portadown defeated them 22-17. Junior Sifa and Brian Gill scored tries for the visitors and Jeff Hitchmough kicked two conversions and a penalty.

Nenagh Ormond’s hopes of a top four finish received a set back when they lost away to Ards at Hamilton Park 17-16. David Corcoran scored a try for the Tipperary side and David Delaney kicked a conversion and three penalties.

A late converted try by Naas saw the Kildare side snatch a dramatic 25-23 win over Sunday’s Well at Musgrave Park. David Aherne had given Naas a 9-6 interval lead. Tries from John Verling and Michael Moynihan and two penalties, two conversions and a drop goal by Eamon Ronan looked enough to give the home side the points until Jeff Delaney’s late try denied the home side a great chance of moving into a play off place.
