The Munster Rugby Coach Development Department recently hosted it’s annual Stage Three Coaching Course in the newly refurbished MRSC bar in Thomond Park, with 37 coaches from clubs and schools in attendance.

The course is designed to enhance knowledge and develop skills through the delivery of core aspects of the game during stage three of player development.

Modules were delivered across two days and included the Roll Of The Coach, Skill Development, Practice Sessions, Long-Term Player Development, and Fundamental Movement Skills.

The outdoor practical sessions were based on the general movement concept and coaching through games, focusing specifically on the corner-stone skills required to be effective in the game.

Munster Coach and Player Development Manager, Keith Murphy, said: “This course was once again a great success with almost 40 coaches in attendance.

“We are again seeing a large demand for coaching courses this season with our first three courses already full to capacity.

“We continue to present modern concepts of coach and game development, emphasising the ‘how’ instead of the ‘what’ in the coaching process.”

The course was the first of the Coach Development Department’s annual window with further courses to include stage one and stage two being delivered throughout the province over the next seven weekends.

Murphy continued: “We are receiving fantastic feedback from our courses and we look forward to our upcoming schedule as we move around the province facilitating coaching courses from mini right through to adult level.”
