West Cork man Stan Fuller was last night elected President of the Munster Branch IRFU at their AGM which was held at the Sunday’s Well RFC pavilion.

A large attendance turned out for the election of the Munster Association Referees nominee for the next twelve months.

Stan becomes the first person to hold this position as well as having been President of the Munster Branch of the Irish Hockey Union in 1974/75 and 1975/76.

Stan is a former pupil of Bandon Grammar School where he learned his rugby and hockey. He played on the three in a row Church of Ireland hockey side that captured the All Ireland Cup in 1967 to 1969 and also represented his province at interprovincial level.

Stan played his rugby with Skibbereen where he won County Cup and O’Neill Cup titles. On retiring from the game he took up the whistle at both rugby and hockey where he umpired at international level at hockey and refereed at Interprovincial level at rugby for eight seasons as well as doing both the Munster Senior Cup finals in 1984 where Young Munster defeated Waterpark and the following year at Musgrave Park when Cork Constitution defeated Shannon.

He was President of the Munster Association Referees in 2001 and was a senior selector from 1988 to 2011.
A presentation was made on behalf of the Branch to Jim Riordan after serving fifteen years as Hon. Treasurer.
The only vote on the night was to elect his successor which saw Tom Kinirons (U.L. Bohemian) defeat Declan Madden (Garryowen).

Amendments to the Bye Laws were unanimously passed with the most notable change of a Management Committee being setup to replace the Co-ordinating Committee.

Election resulted in Stan Fuller taking over the Presidency from Midleton’s Denis Kelleher. John Hartery (Thomond) was elected vice president and Michael Goggin (U.L. Bohemian) was elected as Junior Vice President. Frank Byford was re-elected as Hon Secretary.
