Summer Camps Come To A Close For 2017
25th August 2017 By The Editor
The Munster Rugby Summer Camps 2017 came to an end today following 8 weeks of fun rugby activities throughout all 6 Munster counties in a total of 23 venues.
Throughout the summer Munster Rugby professional players have taken the time to visit each camp and join in on the activities with the rugby stars of the future!
During their visits the players have been encouraging the boys and girls to continue developing the skills they have learned over the summer at their local clubs.
This week Dave Kilcoyne, and Sam Arnold attended the Newcastle West camp and were delighted to meet the young rugby enthusiasts and sign autographs.
Munster players Rory Scanlon and Kevin O’Byrne paid a visit to the Skibereen Summer Camp and during their visit met the players taking part in the first Girls Skill Camp – a new initiative in the club.
Over in Limerick city, the children attending the Old Crescent camp welcomed their local hero Keith Earls and Munster prop John Ryan who both joined in on the fun and spent time answering many questions about professional rugby from the boys and girls.
There was great excitement also at Skibbereen RFC thanks to the arrival of Kevin O’Byrne and Rory Scannell who also spent the day signing autographs and playing rugby in the glorious sunshine.
Speaking on the success of this year’s camp Munster Community Rugby Manager Damon Urlich said “the popularity of our Summer Camps has been highlighted by a 50% increase in participation numbers from last season.
Our camp staff provide an excellent environment for children to learn and have fun and this is reflected in the numbers that return year upon year.”
Munster Rugby would like to thank all the boys and girls that took part in this year’s Summer Camps and look forward to hosting more youth rugby activities throughout the season.
