Dolphin moved off the bottom of Division 1B of the Ulster Bank League as Thurles, Killarney, Richmond and Dunmanway all win silverware.
Dolphin defeated Old Wesley 22-10 at Irish Independent Park to move out of the automatic relegation place with just one game remaining.
Daryl Foley, Cillian Monahan and Gerry Ryan scored tries for Dolphin and Barry Keeshan kicked two conversions and a penalty.
This result leaves UCC needing a win away to Old Wesley next week to book a play off place, while Dolphin just need a similar result as Galwegians to avoid automatic relegation.
At Junior level Malahide defeated Clonmel 34-9 in the All Ireland Provincial League and as a result have qualified for Division 2C of the Ulster Bank League next season.
Conor Cooney kicked three penalties for Clonmel and the Tipperary side must beat Omagh away next week if they are to qualify for a play off place.
Thurles defeated Kinsale 36-21 to win the Junior Clubs Challenge Shield at Fermoy.
Peter Coman scored four tries for Thurles and Eoghan O’Dwyer got two with John Lillis adding three conversions. Sean Bergerson, James Corkery and Thomas Keogh replied with tries for Kinsale and Sean Kingston converted all three.
Killarney who won promotion from the Third Division last week, won the Martin O’Sullivan Cup this weekend when they defeated Fethard 26-15 in the final at Rathcooney. Alan Mulligan and Tim Dudley scored tries for the Kerry side and Paudie Sheahan converted both and also added four penalties. Adrian Hegarty gave a man of the match performance for the winners.
Richmond retained their Transfield Cup title with a 26-15 win over Shannon at Thomond Park. Gearoid Phelan and Sean Bennett scored tries for Richmond, Brian Mullins kicked three penalties and a conversion, Tadgh Bennett added a drop goal and a conversion.
Shannon replied with tries from Marcus McManemy, Gervin Roussow and Evan O’Connor.
Highfield staged a dramatic comeback to defeat Young Munster 32-23 in the semi final of the Munster Seconds League at Tom Clifford Park.
Young Munster who had beaten the same opposition 9-5 in the quarter finals of the Bank of Ireland All Ireland Junior Cup a few weeks ago looked in control of this game when they led 11-3 at half time with a Tom Goggin try and two penalties by Paul Downes to a Kieran Duggan penalty for Highfield.
Shane Fenton scored a try for the home side and Ben Murphy replied with one for Highfield. A try from Darren Ryan converted by Jack Lyons made it 23-8.
A late rally which yielded tries from Colm Gallagher, Matthieu Richard and Colm O’Neill, all converted by Duggan who also added a penalty will now see Highfield face the winners of next Sundays semi final tie between Cork Constitution and Shannon.
Cobh Pirates are through to another Cork County Cup Final after their 21-10 home semi final win over Clonakilty. Eoin McSweeney and Ian Jones scored tries for Cobh. Jones kicked three penalties and a conversion. Olan Deane replied with a try for Clon’ and Mark Purcell kicked a penalty and a conversion.
Bandon will now face Cobh Pirates in the final.
Crosshaven will contest the O’Neill Cup Final where they will face Kinsale after their 45-22 home win over Charleville. Darren O’Keeffe scored two tries for Crosshaven and Chris Murray, Stephen Curran, Dave Walsh, Sa’id Koya and Dane O’Hanlon got a try each. Tim Marron kicked five conversions.
Charleville replied with tries from Shane Corkery and Matt O’Neill and they were also awarded a penalty try with Corkery kicking two conversions and a penalty.
Bandon’s second XV are through to their second final after they defeated Clonakilty 22-18 in their replayed semi final of the Dave Dineen Cup. Billy Crowley scored two tries for the winners and Philip Murphy got one. Crowley kicked two conversions and a penalty.
JD O’Hea and Eoin Courtney scored tries for Clonakilty and Gar Boohig kicked a conversion and two penalties.
Dunmanway won the Paul Twomey Cup after their 20-7 away win over Iveragh. Justin Brookes, Sean Masterson and Dan Sweeney scored tries for Dunmanway. Sweeney added a conversion and a penalty. Liam King replied with a try for Iveragh and Odhran O’Mahony converted.
Clonakilty did book their place in the Kelly Cup final after their 21-15 win over Mallow. Vince Hurley, JD O’Hea and David Walsh scored tries for Clon’. Joe Lee converted all three. Avery Mitchell, Jack Whelan and Dan Lucey replied with tries for Mallow.
