Tomorrow sees the meeting of old rivals Christians and Pres at Irish Independent Park (KO 2pm), with the Sydney Hill side looking to close a large 13-title gap behind the Mardyke outfit.

Christians’ first round game was a thriller, drawing 15 apiece with Crescent, with the Cork club progressing on the first-try rule.

The Sydney Hill outfit look like a side gaining in confidence, after their aforementioned first-try victory against Crescent, the Corkonians avenged the defeat of their Senior side to Ardscoil Rís with a self-assured 30-8 win against the Limerick outfit. Aaron Leahy, Leo Daly, Conor Lavin and Robbie Shalloe all grabbed tries with CBC looking a force ahead of their city clash.

Standing in their way is Pres, who have had an altogether more complicated route to the penultimate stage. A hugely entertaining first-round match in Garryowen against Ardscoil saw the Corkonians run in three tries on the way to a 23-17 win.

The quarters saw them pitted against St Munchins, and having lead 5-0 and had a try disallowed in the first game, the tie was refixed following unprecedented injury circumstances to three St Munchin’s players. In the second game Pres struggled against a strong Munchin’s side in the first-half, but opened the scoring with a Michael Hand on the half-hour mark to give them a 7-0 half-time lead.

The second-half saw the hosts score a crucial second through Joe O’Leary, which Alex Walsh converted again to make it a two-score game, and after a Munchin’s rally which saw Conor O’Shaughnessy touch down on the left-flank, Pres sealed the tie in the dying embers, as Richie Foley pounced on a mistake in the Munchin’s lineout to cross the line.
