The Deise Does It Best!
25th November 2008 By Munster Rugby
This month saw Munster Rugby Development visit Waterford City as we brought our Girls Skills day to Waterford Regional Sports Centre.
The skills day, aimed at girls between 13-17, is set out to help them discover all the hype on one of Ireland’s fastest growing sports for girls. The objective of the 3-hour session is to introduce all the girls to the basic components of full contact rugby, as well as passing, evasion, tackling, scrums and lineouts.
From the get go the girls gave 100% to every single drill they were involved in and the laughing and shouts of enthusiasm certainly indicated that the day was being enjoyed.
All the schools involved on the day will now go on to play in the U-16 schools Leprechaun League in December.
Teachers agreed that the skills day had now given the girls a greater understanding of the game and more confidence to try and get involved in clubs across the city.
I would like to take the time to thank all who were so helpful on the day the staff of the regional sports complex, for all the coaches who gave up their time and expertise while demonstrating great patience and good humour. Thanks also to RDO John O’Neill and to all the Girls and teachers who made it such a great day.
