This Weeks Fixtures

A full program of League games at Senior and Junior level this weekend.

Another big derby game in Limerick this weekend in Division 1A of the Ulster Bank League as second place Young Munster travel across the city to Dooradoyle to face Garryowen under lights on Friday evening. Both sides go into this contested boosted by big wins last weekend. Garryowen travelled to Temple Hill and defeated Cork Constitution 13-9 and Young Munster ended Shannon’s unbeaten run with a 9-3 win at Tom Clifford Park. It should be a very close contest with little expected to separate the sides at the finish.

Cork Constitution after two successive home defeats will try stop the rot when they entertain Clontarf at Temple Hill. The visitors will have many former Con’ players in their ranks and it will require a big effort by the home side to halt Clontarf’s unbeaten run.

Shannon host league holders Old Belvedere at Thomond Park and the Dublin side have not made a good start to their defence of their title. Shannon will want to bounce back after last week’s disappointing defeat and should get back to winning ways.

In Division 1B there is another local derby when Bruff host U.L. Bohemian on Friday night. Both sides have not been having the best of starts to their league campaign with Bruff just above the relegation places. With points vital to both sides it should be a closely fought tie with little to separate the sides at the finish.

U.C.C. still searching for their first win of the campaign are at home to Belfast Harlequins and are due a change of fortune as they bid to get away from the bottom of the table.

In Division 2A Old Crescent after losing to Seapoint last week by a narrow margin travel to Dublin to face Trinity where a victory over the students would see them move ahead of their opponents and right back into contention for promotion.

Thomond’s recent revival will be tested at Fitzgerald Park when they host Greystones and it will take a big effort by the home side to get something from this encounter.

Midleton boosted by their first win last week over City of Derry face a difficult trip when they travel to Seapoint but the East Cork side are capable of getting something from this encounter.

The only sides without a win in this Division Instonians and Clonakilty meet at the Belfast venue. Clonakilty were very unlucky to lose at home last week to Thomond and a similar display could see them move off the foot of the table.

Cashel who lost top spot in Division 2B last week to Rainey on points difference will be confident of making it five wins from five when they host last season’s Leinster Junior League winners Boyne.

Nenagh Ormond who have moved up to third place a point behind the leaders face a tricky encounter when they travel to NUIM Barnhall but a repeat of last week’s drubbing of Connemara should see them continue their charge towards promotion.

Sunday’s Well after their drubbing by Rainey last week will be anxious to preserve their unbeaten home record with a win over bottom side Ards.

Highfield after two successive defeats will hope to be able to pick from a full squad for their trip to Sligo as they bid to get back to winning ways.

There is also a full program of league games in the Munster Junior League with the big game in Division One being the meeting of the top two sides as leaders Skibbereen host Waterpark as all their nearest challengers will fancy their chances of keeping in touch with the leaders.
