27th April 2018 By The Editor
The Ireland Sevens Management have confirmed the 12 players to represent Ireland at the Rugby Europe U18 Championship and Youth Olympic qualifier in Vichy, France this weekend (28-29th April).
Munster’s Dorothy Wall (Fethard RFC) and Maggie Boylan (Carrick-On-Suir RFC) are both in the squad with Wall named as co-captain.
16 teams will compete in the tournament, with the winner being awarded the Rugby Europe U18 Women Championship title for 2017/18, and also claiming a spot at the Youth Olympic Games which takes place in Buenos Aires, Argentina this October.
The Irish side have been drawn in Pool D with Andorra, Latvia and the Netherlands.
Matthew Wilkie will coach the side, which includes a number of players who competed at last season’s Rugby Europe Championship at the same venue back in September.
Ahead of the tournament getting underway, Wilkie said: “The girls are all very excited to run out there tomorrow to represent their country.
“They have trained really well in the two camps leading into this tournament and the skills and knowledge they have displayed is testament to the training they have been receiving in their clubs and schools to date.
“I am very much looking forward to seeing them continue to build on this and perform to their potential this weekend.”
The Ireland Girls U18 side will start the competition against Latvia, before facing Andorra and finishing the day against the Netherlands.
Rugby Europe will provide a live stream via RugbyEurope.eu.
