UCC Book Place In Quarter Finals

U.C.C. advanced to a meeting with Old Crescent in the quarter finals of the Bank of Ireland Munster Senior Cup after a four point win over Bruff at Kilballyowen Park.

Bruff 19, U.C.C. 23.
As well as booking their place in the last eight of the Bank of Ireland Munster Senior Cup, College also became the first winners of the Alfie Laffan Memorial trophy, which was put up to honour this player who played for both clubs.

The visitors made the better start with Cillian Ansboro and Tim Clifford ran in tries for College. Kevin O’Keeffe converted one of the tries for a 12-0 lead.

Bruff hit back with a magnificent try when their forwards mauled the ball from the ten meter line for Kevin Madigan to touch down and Tony Cahill converted.

A penalty from O’Keeffe extended the Students lead with a penalty to lead 15-3 at half time.

Paul Kiernan extended U.C.C.’s lead with a try early in the second half, but Dave Horan replied with a try to keep Bruff in contention.

Clifford added a penalty before Brian Cahill scored a late try for the home side and Tony Cahill converted to leave four between the sides.
