UL Bohemian Shock Shannon

20th February 2016 By Munster Rugby

A great result for U.L. Bohemian over their neighbours Shannon in a dramatic Ulster Bank League Division 1B tie under the lights at Thomond Park.

Shannon 22, UL Bohemian 25.
There were many talking points at the end of this dramatic local derby encounter which saw uncontested scrums for most of the second half.

It was a triumph for the UL Bohemian forwards who were totally on top in the tight which earned them a crucial penalty try just on half time.

At one stage in the second half UL Bohemian had one player receiving medical attention while another was in the sin bin but having built up a 17-3 interval lead UL Bohemian held on for the very precious points as they battle relegation.

Darren Moroney had the opening try for UL Bohemian which Ricky McKenna converted after ten minutes and he then added a penalty on twenty three minutes.

Shane Airey kept Shannon touch with a penalty and was unlucky with another effort but just on half time came the penalty try as the Bohes pack forwards pushed Shannon over their own line from a five metre scrum. McKenna converted to make the score 17-3.

Greg O'Shea kept Shannon in contention with a try five minutes into the second half which Tadgh Bennett converted but after fifty minutes prop Mike Lynch touched down to leave it 22-10.

Shane Mullally raised Shannon's hopes with a fifty eight minute try but a penalty by McKenna eased Bohes worries.

Eight minutes from the end Will Leonard had a Shannon try which Bennett superbly converted from the touchline to earn them a losing bonus point.

Scorers Shannon: Greg O'Shea, Will Leonard, Shane Mullally tries, Shane Airey pen, Tadgh Bennett 2 cons.
UL Bohemian Darren Moroney, Mike Lynch, tries, Penalty try, Ricky McKenna 2 pens, 2 cons.
