UL Bohs Beat Highfield In Munster Derby
3rd November 2014 By Munster Rugby
UL Bohemian secured their second win of the season after a 17-5 win over Highfield in Division 1 of the Women’s AIL at Woodleigh Park on Saturday evening.
Lousie Galvin and Maeve Darcy were the try-scorers for Bohs with Irish international Niamh Briggs converting both as they raced into a 14-0 half-time lead.
Munster winger Deirbhile Nic A Bhaird did get Highfield off the mark with a try in the second half but a Briggs penalty in the final quarter cemented the win for UL Bohemian.
The win keeps UL Bohs in fourth spot but they are now nine points behind leaders Old Belvedere after their bonus-point win over Blackrock.
It was sixth-placed Highfield’s third loss of the season while Tralee remain bottom of the eight-team league after the postponement of their scheduled game against Galwegians.
In Division 2 South, Fermoy moved to the top of the table after an 11-0 away win over New Ross at Tullavarraga.
Julianne O’Brien dived over to score the only Fermoy try from close range and the Lionesses extended their lead with two well taken penalties from out-half Aoife Walsh.
Fermoy’s lead at the top is just a point, however, after Ballincollig made it two wins from two with a 17-7 home win over Nenagh Ormond.
A Lizzy Kelly penalty and a try from vice-captain Emily Cleary had the hosts 8-7 ahead at the break. Kelly kicked two further penalties in the second half to make it 14-7 to Ballincollig before captain Breda Leonard kicked a fourth penalty late on.
The big winners at the weekend were Shannon who recorded a bonus-point 44-14 win over the combined Dungarvan/Youghal side who drop to the bottom of the table.
