UL Bohemians RFC this week announced a new coaching team for their senior side next season.
Gearoid Prendergast will be the Limerick club's new head coach, joined by James Hickey (forwards coach), Donn O'Sullivan (backs coach) and Seamus Hassett (assistant forwards coach) for the forthcoming Division 1B campaign.
Prendergast, who has been at the club for two seasons as backs coach, takes over the head coaching role, having coached previously with Young Munster and been the head coach of Richmond.
In keeping with promoting from within, Donn O'Sullivan and Seamus Hassett, both involved with the senior set up last season, remain in place. In a new addition to the team and club, James Hickey, formerly of Shannon RFC and current Ardscoil Rís coach joins the senior side as forwards coach. The club, who will once again play in Division 1B of the Ulster Bank League are delighted to have such an experienced group in place for the season.
Speaking about the announcement of the new backroom team, head coach Gearoid Prendergast says he is already looking forward to getting down to work. "To have such a great coaching ticket, confirmed this early, is a real positive. We are keen to kick on from where we were last season and with the mix of continuity both on and off the field, coupled with the addition of James Hickey to the team, the future is bright for us, I believe.
"With the Ulster Bank League going from strength to strength and with more and more players graduating from the club game to the professional game, we believe UL Bohemians have the right ingredients to allow players to develop, through the league and our academy, to reach the levels they wish to attain"
In other news, Donn O'Sullivan will also take up the role of Academy manager with the club. Replacing Mossy Lawler, who has joined the professional ranks at Connacht.
Based at the University of Limerick, the UL Bohemians Academy can boast amongst it's former members, names such as Tommy O'Donnell, Dave Kilcoyne, Barry Murphy, Cathal Sheridan, Dave Foley, and Sean Henry to name but a few.
