Ulster Bank League Round-Up
14th September 2014 By Munster Rugby
It was not a good day for the three Munster sides that travelled to Dublin for their opening games in Division 1A of the Ulster Bank League.
Defending champions Clontarf began their campaign with a 37-19 home win over Young Munster. A try and two penalties by Shane O’Leary and a Ben Martin penalty gave Young Munster a 14-3 lead early in the opening half.
At half-time Clontarf trailed 14-13 but dominated the second half with Barry Gibbons scoring a try for the visitors after the interval.
Cork Constitution travelled to Anglesea Road to face last year’s runners up Old Belvedere and lost 24-8. Belvo led 14-0 at half time but a try by Luke Cahill and a Gerry Hurley penalty brought Con’ back into contention, but a late rally by the home side yielded ten points to deny Con’ a losing bonus point.
A depleted Dolphin side lost 37-6 to Lansdowne at the Aviva Stadium with Barry Keeshan kicking two penalties for the Musgrave Park side.
In Division 1B: a late try from substitute Kalani Moore earned U.L. Bohemian a 22-19 win over Belfast Harlequins on the back pitch in Thomond Park.
A try from Ed Kelly and a conversion and penalty by Shane Airey saw UL Bohes trail 13-10 at half time. A try by Ian Condell and a conversion from Airey kept the home side in the game until Moore’s late strike.
