Ulster Bank League Round-Up

Young Munster have taken over the lead in Division 1A of the Ulster Bank League as U.L. Bohemian lose their unbeaten record in Division 1B at Dubarry Park.

In a thrilling game at Templeville Road Young Munster had to withstand a second half rally from St. Mary’s College before emerging victorious on a 34-32 scoreline.
The Cookies, who led 24-3 at half time, had two tries from Dan Goggin and one each by Gavin Coombes and Rob Guerin. David O’Mahony converted all four tries and kicked two penalties.

Cork Constitution have moved into the top four with a 31-15 bonus point home win over Terenure College. It was 14-10 to Con’ at half time with Max Abbott and Brian Hayes scoring tries and Tomás Quinlan converting both.
Shane Daly and Niall Kenneally added further tries after the break and Quinlan converted both and added a penalty.

Garryowen lost away to UCD, 23-16. David Johnston was Garryowen’s try scorer and Neil Cronin kicked a conversion and three penalties.

The top of the table clash in Division 1B between leaders U.L. Bohemian and Buccaneers resulted in a 49-17 home win for the Athlone side.
Buccaneers, who led 25-0 at half time, scored six tries. The Limerick side had two tries from David Rowsome and one by Harry Fleming. Robbie Burke kicked one conversion.

UCC, who led 3-0 at half time away to Naas, were defeated 10-6. Kevin O’Keeffe kicked two penalties for the Students.

The bottom of the table clash at Thomond Park saw Shannon win their first win of the campaign with a 17-10 win over Dolphin.
A penalty after 22 minutes by Barry Keeshan put Dolphin 3-0 ahead.
A dramatic finish saw Shannon race into a 17-3 lead. Richie Mullane put Shannon ahead with a try which Ronan McKenna converted. Conor Glynn scored a second try for the home side and McKenna converted and also added a penalty.
Rob O’Herlihy secured a bonus point for Dolphin with a try at the end and Keeshan converted.

Nenagh Ormond ended leader’s Banbridge unbeaten start with a 25-5 win at New Ormond Park. John Coffey, John O’Flaherty, Cronan Gleeson and Kevin O’Flaherty scored tries for the Tipperary side and Clayton Stewart kicked a conversion and a penalty.

Highfield lost for the first time in the league, when they went down at Stradbrook to Blackrock College 29-21. Paddy O’Toole, John McLoughlin and Dan Healy were Highfield’s try scorers and O’Toole kicked two penalties.

Cashel won their bottom of the table clash with Belfast Harlequins at Deramore Park 22-14 to move off the foot of the table. Adam O’Loughlin and Sean Walsh scored tries for Cashel who were also awarded a penalty try. Ollie McGlinchey kicked two conversions and a penalty.

Thomond have moved off the bottom of Division 2B with a 12-6 win over Skerries at Liam Fitzgerald Park. Dermot Fitzgerald kicked four penalties for the winners.

Old Crescent lost away to Leaders City of Armagh 21-9. Barry Neville kicked three penalties for the Rosbrien side.

Midleton’s promotion challenge in Division 2C received a setback at Towns Park when they went down to Seapoint 19-17. Ross O’Mahony, Louis Farnham and Diarmuid O’Sullivan scored tries for Midleton and Stuart Lee kicked a conversion.

Kanturk came close to upsetting promotion chasing Bangor at Knocknaconlon, when a late rally failed to produce a winning score as they lost 17-12. Conor Boyce and Kieran Downey scored tries for the Duhallow side and Conor Cremin kicked a conversion.

Bruff still remain in bottom spot after their 15-13 home defeat by Tullamore. Brendan Keogh and Tony Cahill scored tries for Bruff and Cahill added a conversion.
