Young Munster hold leaders Clontarf to a draw in Division 1A of the Ulster Bank League as Garryowen lose for the first time and Cork Constitution are still seeking their first win.
A penalty with the last action of the game by Joey Carbery gave Clontarf a share of the spoils in a six try thriller against Young Munster at Clifford Park that finished level 27-27 in this Division 1A Ulster Bank League contest.
Young Munster dominated the second half after being 21-13 behind at the interval.
The home side could not have had a better start as their South African scrum half; Abrie Griesel had a try after only three minutes which Paul Downes converted.
It was 7-7 only four minutes later when Michael McGrath extended his great try scoring achievements with another touchdown and Carbery converted.
Flanker Karl Moran had 'Tarf in front with a 26th minute touchdown which Carbery again converted.
Downs’s penalty for Young Munster was answered with a third Clontarf try, this time by Conor O'Brien and again Carbery added the extras.
A second penalty by Downes made it 13-21 at the break.
The second half was only three minutes old when Diarmuid Dee had a Young Munster try which Downes again converted to leave only a point between them. Carbery's penalty made it 24-20 before a superb break by Diarmuid McCarthy sent Darragh O'Neill in for a try which Downes again converted but the last gasp penalty by Carbery gave the visitors their share of the spoils.
Cork Constitution and UCD played a 19-19 draw at Temple Hill. Constitution led 16-5 at half time with a try from Darren Sweetnam and a conversion and three penalties by Tomas Quinlan.
The Con’ out half increased their lead with his fourth penalty but UCD fought back to level. The home side were disallowed a try towards the end of the game and also missed a drop goal attempt.
Garryowen’s unbeaten run ended at Lakelands Park when Terenure College defeated them 23-22 with an injury time penalty from Jake Swain.
Josh Histch, Neil Cronin and Steve McMahon scored tries for the Limerick side and Cronin kicked two conversions and a penalty.
There was no joy for the Munster sides in Division 1B.
Shannon were hit with early and late tries by Ballymena who snatched victory at Coonagh 22-19.
The game was only two minutes old when full back Rodger McBurney had a try for the visitors.
But Shannon recovered quickly and prop Tony Cusack had tries in the 9th and 18th minutes, the second of which Shane Airey converted.
A penalty by Richie McMaster for Ballymena left the visitors trailing 12-8 at the interval.
Conor Glynn scored a spectacular try for Shannon, and again Airey converted, to make it 19-8 for the home side.
But tries in the 68th and 77th minutes by Kieran Joyce and Alan O'Connor proved decisive, both of which McMaster converted, gave the visitors the points.
Dolphin also lost at home going down to Old Wesley 24-19. Will Hanly and Killian O’Keeffe scored tries for Dolphin and Cian McGovern kicked two penalties and a drop goal.
UL Bohemian suffered a 39-21 away defeat to Dublin University. The visitors led 15-13 at half time with Robbie Bourke kicking seven penalties for UL Bohes.
In Division 2A Cashel are just a point behind leaders Banbridge with a game in hand after their 20-11 home win over Naas. Tom McHale scored two tries and Brendan O’Connor one for the winners. Jason Newton kicked a conversion and a penalty.
U.C.C. had a bonus point 33-21 win over Malone at the Mardyke. Baude Guillaume, Eddie Earl, James Kiernan and Tim Clifford all scored tries for the students and Kevin O’Keeffe added three penalties and two conversions.
Leaders Banbridge defeated Nenagh Ormond 27-13 to stay top. Derek Corcoran scored a try for Nenagh and Kolio Hifo kicked a conversion and two penalties.
Corinthians still remain bottom of the table despite their 19-12 home win over Thomond. Mike Darcy and Leonard Slattery scored tries for Thomond and John Lillis kicked a conversion.
In Division 2B Highfield remain in second place after their 36-14 home win over Dungannon. Chris Bannon, David O’Hea, James Daly, Brian O’Hea, and Sean Quaid all scored tries for the Cork side and Paddy O’Toole kicked for conversions and a penalty.
Sunday’s Well had their first win of the campaign with a 10-6 away win over Rainey Old Boys. Robert Browner scored a try for the ‘Well which Mark Chandler converted. Eoin Geary kicked a first half penalty.
Kanturk defeated Division 2C leaders Bruff 31-23 at Kilballyowen Park. Sean Cremin scored three tries for the winners and Peter Earlie and John O’Sullivan got one each. Con Cremin kicked a conversion and Ben Martin two.
Bruff had tries from John Hogan and Brendan Deady and a penalty try. Tony Cahill kicked two penalties and a conversion.
Old Crescent are the new leaders in this Division after their 31-16 home win over Boyne. K Doyle (2), C O’Reilly, M Ryan and N Kerr were Old Crescent’s try scorers and L Hanly kicked three conversions.
Midleton kept up their promotion challenge with four penalties from Stuart Lee earned them a 12-11 away win over Sligo, the last penalty coming in the last minute of the game.
