Ulster Bank League Roundup
8th November 2015 By Munster Rugby
There was plenty of late drama in several games that saw Munster sides emerge with victories with last minute scores.
The game of the day was at Tom Clifford Park where new Young Munster Coach David Corkery led his side to an 11-10 over his former club Cork Constitution in Division 1A of the Ulster Bank League.
A try by replacement Darragh O'Neill after 55 minutes gave Young Munster victory. He had replaced James O'Connor who was injured in the first half.
Young Munster dominated the first half during which they were awarded six penalty chances. Twice they opted for the corners and with another they took a quick tap but the ball was turned over by the Cons pack as they tries to drive over.
Eventually they opted to kick a goal after 37 minutes when Gearoid Lyons was successful and he landed another on the stroke of halftime.
It was a lead Young Munster well deserved but a penalty by Tomas Quinlan three minutes into the second half left only a converted try between them.
As Young Munster attacked Shane Daly intercepted on his own “22” and the centre raced clear for a try which Quinlan converted to edge his side in front.
But O'Neill's far out try was sufficient to give Young Munster the points.
Garryowen moved up to third place after their 28-13 away win over Old Belvedere.
The visitors led 13-10 at half time and had tries from Neil Cronin, James McInerney and James Frawley. Cronin converted two of the tries and also added three penalties.
Shannon continued their good run in Division 1B with a 32-10 away win over Belfast Harlequins.
The visitors led 22-5 and had two tries from Stephen Fitzgerald and David O’Donovan and Ritchie Mullane got one each. They were also awarded a penalty try. Tadhg Bennett kicked two conversions and a penalty.
U.L. Bohemian went down to a narrow 27-24 defeat to leaders Dublin University at Annacotty. The home side got off to a perfect start when they opened up a 10-0 lead thanks to a penalty by Kiwi out half, Rick McKenna, who also converted a try by Alan Rossiter.
McKenna landed two more penalties to leave his side trailing 17-16 at half time.
A try by Cian Ahern and a penalty by McKenna kept Bohes in touch.
UL Bohemian had a last minute penalty chance but the effort sailed wide which would have earned a draw but a bonus point was all that could be picked up.
A Cian McGovern first half penalty was not enough for Dolphin who lost at home to Dublin University 44-3.
Division 2A leaders Cashel lost at home for the second successive week when Queens University defeated them 26-23. Brian McLoughlin and Eamon Connolly scored tries for the Tipperary side and Tom McHale converted both and also added three penalties.
Tries from James Kiernan, Kevin Slater and Eddie Earl along with three conversions and a penalty gave U.C.C. a 24-0 lead at home to Banbridge. The Ulster side came back to lead 26-24 until O’Keeffe struck with a last minute penalty to give the students the points on a 27-26 scoreline.

Richard Duggan was their other try scorer and Dylan Horgan kicked five penalties and two conversions.
Sundays Well continued their recent good run with their fourth success win, their third on the road as they defeated Seapoint 20-7 in Dublin. Greg Higgins and Cyprian Jouve scored tries for the ‘Well and Shane O’Riordan converted both and also added two penalties.
A last minute penalty from Tony Cahill gave Bruff a 21-19 away win over Division 2C leaders Wanderers at the Aviva Stadium.

Old Crescent have now gone top following their 47-7 away win over Sligo.
