A last minute penalty by Shane Airey gave Young Munster victory at Temple Hill as Garryowen moved up to third place in Division 1A of the Ulster Bank League.
A dramatic last minute penalty earned Young Munster a 20-19 away win at Cork Constitution. The defending champions led 16-12 at half time with a try from JJ O’Neill and a conversion and three penalties by Tomas Quinlan.
Ben Kilkenny and James O’Connor replied with tries for “The Cookies” and Shane Airey converted one of the tries. Quinlan added another penalty for Con’ in the second half and Daniel Hurley kept Young Munster in the game with a try until Airey’s late strike decided the game.
Garryowen moved into third place after their 27-20 win over UCD at Dooradoyle. David Johnston scored two tries for the home side and Neil Cronin kicked five penalties and a conversion.
The big game in Division 1B was the Limerick derby between U.L. Bohemian and leaders Shannon at Thomond Park. Shannon made it five wins from five with a 27-22 victory. Shannon dominated the opening half and led 27-10 at half time with tries from Conor Fitzgerald and Nathan Randles, Fitzgerald kicked five penalties and a conversion.
UL Bohes rallied in the second half; tries from Joe Bennett, James Ryan and Mike Mullally and a penalty and two conversions by Robbie Bourke saw them come close to snatching the points.
U.C.C. defeated Old Wesley 31-27 at the Mardyke to move up to fifth place. Murray Linn, Richard Walsh and Kevin Slater scored tries for College and James Taylor kicked two conversions and four penalties.
Dolphin have slipped to the bottom of the table after their 38-10 home defeat by Old Belvedere. Caolan O’Flynn was Dolphin’s try scorer and Barry Keeshan kicked a conversion and a penalty.
In Division 2A Nenagh Ormond maintained their challenge with a 38-32 away win over City of Armagh. David Gleeson scored two tries for the Tipperary side and Jamie McGarry and Willie Coffey also scored tries.
Nenagh were also awarded a penalty try. Clayton Stewart converted all four tries and also kicked a penalty.
A dramatic injury time drop goal by substitute Paddy O’Toole earned Highfield a 17-16 home win over Galway Corinthians. The visitors led 13-0 at half time and increased the lead with a penalty before Highfield rallied with tries from Chris Bannon and Colm Gallagher both of which O’Toole converted.
Cashel kept up their challenge with a hard earned 20-18 home win over Greystones. Darragh Lyons and Michael Casey scored tries for Cashel and Lyons converted both and added two penalties.
Old Crescent have extended their lead at the top of Division 2B after their 54-21 away win at City of Derry.
Brian Tuohy and Larry Hanly each scored two tries and Ronan McKenna, Gary Fitzgerald, Jack O’Neill and Val McDermot got one each. McKenna kicked seven conversions.
Sunday’s Well lost away to second placed Skerries 22-7. Eoin Geary scored the ‘Well’s try and Shane O’Riordan converted.
Bruff’s 10-8 home win over Seapoint sees them move into second place in Division 2C. Brian Fanning scored Bruff’s try and Dave O’Grady converted and also added a penalty.
Thomond’s 28-23 away win at Midleton sees them move into third place. Darragh O’Neill and Cian Coady each scored two tries for Thomond and Evan Cusack kicked two penalties and a conversion.
Louis Fanning replied with two tries for Midleton and Rory Horgan scored one. Stuart Lee kicked two penalties and a conversion.
