Ulster Bank League Roundup

Three Munster teams won away from home in the opening round of games in Division 1A of the Ulster Bank League, while for the majority of the other Munster sides results did not go their way.

Dolphin travelled to Dooradoyle and came away with maximum points after a 30-13 victory over Garryowen. The Cork side led 11-7 at half time with a try from Eamon Mills and two penalties by Rory Scannell. Andrew O’Brien replied with a try for Garryowen and Jamie Gavin converted.
Rory Scannell, Cian Bohane and James Kiernan scored further tries and Scannell converted two of them, while Garryowen’s reply were two penalties from Gavin.

Young Munster travelled to Templeville Road and defeated St. Mary’s College 26-18. Brian Haugh was the cookies hero kicking four penalties and converting tries by Derry O’Connor and Hugh McGrath.

Cork Constitution made the long trip to County Down and defeated Ballynahinch 24-17. The visitors led 13-6 at half time and had tries from Shane O’Connor and Johnny Holland. Darragh Lyons kicked three penalties and a conversion and Holland also added a penalty.

In Division 1B relegated Shannon lost at home to Blackrock College 23-16. Richie Mullane and David O’Donovan scored tries for Shannon and Tadhg Bennett added two penalties.

Three penalties from Shane Airey was not enough for U.L. Bohemian who lost away to Terenure College 36-9.

In Division 2A, Cashel continued their unbeaten run to the season with a 26-13 home win over Banbridge.
Relegated Bruff suffered a 33-13 home defeat by NUIM Barnhall and U.C.C. were surprisingly beaten at the Mardyke by Naas 28-22. Skipper Brian Quill and Ned Hodson scored tries for the students and Sean Og Murphy kicked four penalties.
Both Highfield and Old Crescent lost away from home. Queens University defeated Highfield 27-22 and Old Wesley ran out 54-15 winners over Old Crescent at Donnybrook.

There were two Munster derby ties in Division 2B. Thomond came from 8-3 down at half time to defeat Sunday’s Well 35-14 at Liam Fitzgerald Park.
Nenagh Ormond recorded a 34-17 home win over Midleton.
