Garryowen and Ennis booked their place in the final of the Bank of Ireland U18 Cup last weekend, both scoring 20 points in the process as they look forward to a Thomond Park showdown.

Both semis were played in the neutral venue of Charleville in North Cork, and in the earlier game the Limerick outfit saw off the challenge of Waterpark 20-15 in a game which went down to the wire.

Following that not an inch was given in Ennis’ defeat of Tralee in the second game, just three points enough to see the Clare outfit make history after a heroic goal-line stand, winning out 20-17 in the end.

In the plate there were two all-county clashes last weekend, as Mallow overcame Bandon at Old Christians 22-13, while in Galbally a tight contest saw Thurles reach the plate final with a 10-7 win over Nenagh Ormond.

Even tighter margains in the U16 Cup semi-finals; Cobh Pirates hearts being broken having matched Skibberreen all the way at Wilton, only to lose out on the first-try rule. It was a little more comfortable for Kinsale meanwhile, who completed Waterpark’s disappointing weekend with a 17-7 victory in Youghal.

Meanwhile in the U16 Plate it will be an all Cork City affair, as Cork Constitution defeated Nenagh Ormond, while Sunday’s Well were victors over city rivals Highfield.

Meanwhile Tipperary’s The Abbey CBS claimed their third U19 O’Brien Cup title in six years, after a 24-6 defeat of Waterpark College in Clanwilliam last Wednesday.

Note the U16 (2pm) Cup, and the U18 Cup (3.45pm) and Plate (12pm) finals have been moved to April 2nd, at Thomond Park.
