Update | Munster Association of Referees

The M.A.R. held their annual conference in Charleville last month.

The 2019/20 season is well underway for the members of the Munster Association of Referees.

Munster’s U18 IRFU National Panel referees kicked off their season with their Annual Camp taking place in Enfield, Co. Meath at the end of July.

Congratulations to Rob O’Sullivan who has been promoted to the Contracted Development Panel, Eoghan Cross who was promoted to the Level 2 Panel and Paudie Sheehan who successfully navigated the Inter-Provincial Appointment System (I.P.A.S) and joined as a Level 3 Panel referee for the coming season.

We also acknowledge the retirement of John Lacey and wish him all the best in his new roles within the IRFU and World Rugby. To Andrew Brace, we say “Ganbatte kudasai” (Good Luck) for your time as a match official at the Rugby World Cup in Japan.

The M.A.R. Annual Conference took place in Charleville Park Hotel on the 25th of August, opened by incoming President Noel “Wirey” Sexton, this was an opportunity for all members to refresh law knowledge and prepare themselves for the season ahead.

Chris Harrington, the IRFU Referee Development Manager for Munster, delivered a presentation on the new World Rugby foul play framework for shoulder charges and high tackles.

The inaugural M.A.R. Recruitment Week was held across four venues between the 14th and 22nd of September.

The first of its kind, it was attended by 38 individuals who were interested in learning how to become a referee.

We look forward to seeing how their journey progresses over the coming weeks and months.

If you missed the September courses please stay tuned to the M.A.R. website and social media channels for the announcement of our January courses.
