14th April 2023 By The Editor
Over the Easter break, training sessions and trial games were held for the different age-grade squads who are involved in the Munster Rugby player pathway.
These squads have been training together at different stages throughout the season and they are currently being refined ahead of the summer interprovincial programme.
We spoke with recently appointed Rugby Development Manager Eneliko Fa’atau who gave an overview of what took place during the Easter break while also explaining the work that goes on behind the scenes in getting final squads together ahead of the Interpros in the summer.
Fa’atau joined Munster Rugby in 2021 as a Coach and Player Development officer before starting his new role earlier this month.
“We’re quite lucky with our Coach & Player Development Officers, our Rugby Development Officers, national talent coaches, provincial talent coaches.
“Especially in these last three to four months we’ve made a really big push to get out and watch games and watch footage. We make sure we do our homework when it comes to our pathway players.”
Fa’atau added: “After this week, our Easter programme finishes and then we make our final selection for our Interpro squads from U16 right through to U19s.”
