The inaugural Munster Rugby Girls School of Excellence at Bandon Grammar School in Co. Cork took place last week.

The three-day camp, which was originally due to take place in 2020 but was cancelled due to the pandemic provides girls aged 13-16 with the opportunity to develop their rugby skills and understanding through a game sense and technical excellence approach.

Last week, over 70 girls from clubs throughout the province took part in a structured rugby development programme which included core skill development, game understanding, position specific workshops, appropriate strength and conditioning training and teamwork.

This all took place in an enjoyable but challenging environment where players were encouraged to develop their all-round rugby ability. Throughout the week the players received top class coaching from Munster Rugby coaches.

We paid a visit to the School of Excellence last week and we spoke to Women’s Participation Officer Rosemary Dillon, Strength and Conditioning Coach Yvonne O’Connell and Women’s Development Officer Willie Shubart who all provided an overview of the three days.

Munster Rugby players Jack Crowley and Cian Hurley also paid a visit and conducted a Q&A session with the players.
