Regional Development Squads

Munster Rugby’s Regional Development Squads (RDS) returned to the pitch over the last six weeks after spending four months training from home and attending weekly Zoom meetings during lockdown.

The RDS programme commences with U16 players coming from clubs and schools throughout the province and delivers programmes at U17 clubs and schools, U18 clubs and schools, culminating with an U19 combined squad.

Due to COVID-19, the squads have been sub-divided on a county-by-county basis with different venues throughout the province to provide a safe environment for the players and coaches.

We caught up with Coach & Player Development Officer Owen Mullowney who was taking a session at Musgrave Park this week for club and schools players who are based in Cork City and East Cork.

Mullowney provides an overview of the overall RDS programme, how players are selected and what the plans are for the remainder of the summer.
