It has been a busy summer across the province with the Munster age-grade representative squads preparing for their respective Interprovincial campaigns.
The Interpro series for Munster’s U19 Boys, U18 Boys Schools, U18 Boys Clubs and U18 Girls squads all kick off in August.
This month, all squads will participate in a residential camp at the University of Limerick which will involve the use of the facilities in the High Performance Centre which includes pitch sessions and gym work in addition to workshops around nutrition and sports psychology.
We caught up with newly appointed U18 girls head coach Noel O’ Meara to talk about the importance of these residential camps and what is next for the girls as they continue their preparations for the upcoming championships.
He said:
“The girls come from all over the province so this is a great opportunity for them to come together. They are all from different clubs so it really helps to bring that team together rather than them playing as individuals.”
“The timeline now is we have a US side coming over at the end of the month and we’ll play them in Fethard so that is sort of going to be a benchmark for us and give us our final opportunity to identify the group of girls we want to take forward to the Interpros.”
U18s player, Siobhan O’ Callaghan, commented on how important this camp was for the girls to come together and bond as a team after a month off.
She said:
“I think it’s very important you know. We’ve had seasons playing against each other and it’s just nice to get everyone together to form those bonds and form as a team.”
