Video | Munster U19 Men Interpro Preparations
26th July 2024 By The Editor
With the 2024 PwC Age-Grade Interpros only around the corner each of the squads are hard at work in their respective training facilities.
This month, all squads participated in a residential camp at the University of Limerick which involved the use of the facilities in the High Performance Centre which included pitch sessions and gym work in addition to workshops around nutrition and sports psychology.
This year, Munster Rugby Elite Player Development Officer and former Irish Women’s Sevens head coach, Aiden McNulty, take over the reigns of the Boys U19s squad.
We caught up with Aiden during the second week of residential camps to see how preparations were going and how the squad have settled in as a group.
“In the bigger picture we’re bringing the best U19 players together, to learn from each other, to individually grow and develop but to also to also build towards our Interpros in August and try and create an environment where these players can go and thrive in a Munster jersey.
“Our aim is to give them some elevated coaching and training from their clubs and their schools. It’s to get to know them really well so that we can make some really good selection choices on our pathway and ultimately it is to, again, get the best players together so that they can represent their clubs and their schools in a Munster jersey which is something these guys have high aspirations for and have for a long time.”
We also spoke with Old Crescent RFC and Crescent College Comprehensive player Jonathan Byrne about the new coaching set up and how they are preparing them not just for the Interpros but also their future playing careers.
Byrne said:
“The coaches are amazing like they really prepare you for that professional set up so like nearly all of our day is based around training and trying to improve our rugby skills whether that is on or off the pitch. But it is very much preparing us for the next level.”
