Video & Pics: M&S Emerging Schools Blitz Finals

The Mark and Spencer Munster Rugby Emerging Schools finals day recently took place in Cork and Limerick at Thomond Park Stadium and Irish Independent Park.

Emerging schools blitz days have been running throughout the province over the past couple of months for secondary school pupils attending non-traditional rugby playing schools.

The Under 15 age grade pupils representing schools from the six Munster counties, have been taking part in 11 aside rugby, coordinated by Munster Community Rugby Officers.



Schools that took part in the Thomond Park finals were Colaiste Mhuire Askeaton, Scoil Mhuire agus Ide NCW, Colaiste dun Iascaigh Cahir, St Caimins, Rice College, St Patricks Comp finalists Abbey CBS Tipperary Town and eventual winners St Joseph's CBS Nenagh.

There were two finals at Irish Independent Park with players representing De La Salle Waterford, Waterpark College, St Fachtna's Skibbereen, Scoil Mhuire Gan Small Blarney, Mitchelstown CBS, Meanscoil Phadraig Naofa, Colaiste Chathail Naofa Dungarvan, Colaiste Pobail Bantry, Carrigaline Community, Colaiste Muire Crosshaven, St Marys CBS, St. Pat’s Castleisland and The Green Tralee.

St. Pat’s Castleisland and Colaiste Pobail Bantry were eventual winners and received their winning medals from former Munster and All Blacks player Doug Howlett.

The Marks and Spencer Emerging Schools initiative has been developed to give young people attending non-traditional rugby playing schools the opportunity to play the sport and it is hoped they will continue to participate at their local club.
