Video | Summer Camps Review & Rugby Development In Numbers

The inaugural Munster Rugby School of Excellence took place at Rockwell College last month. INPHO.

The 2019 Bank of Ireland Summer Camps proved as popular as ever over the months of July and August with 1750 kids attending camps throughout the province.

A total of 22 venues hosted camps with 40 coaches on hand to coordinate and encourage the development of future reds across Munster.

The inaugural Munster Rugby School of Excellence was a huge success at Rockwell College with the residential and non-residential camp providing a complete rugby experience for 112 players.

Players participated in a structured rugby development programme throughout the week which included core skill development, game understanding, position specific workshops, appropriate strength and conditioning training and teamwork.

Players also received education in mental preparation, nutrition and video analysis, which are all vital for the up and coming stars of the future.

The 2019 Munster Rugby Girls Skills Camps welcomed 60 girls to Ennis, Ballincollig and Skibbereen RFC and were designed to develop basic skills while also educate on nutrition, hydration and general movement.

Munster Rugby in partnership with the Cork English College ran two English & Rugby Camps at Cork Institute of Technology for international students looking to develop their English language as well as their rugby skills.

The Munster Rugby Development Department also hosted the province’s first Inclusion Camp at Ballincollig RFC for children with all disabilities.

The camp focused on adapting rugby to meet the needs of the participants while also maximising their enjoyment.

Overall, there were a total of 50 Munster Rugby player visits made across the various camps held this summer.

2018/19 was another rewarding season for the Munster Rugby Development Department whose hard work and dedication continues to grow the game throughout the province.

There were a number of rugby development activities which contributed towards a successful season across all aspects of the domestic game.
