Vital Wins for Shannon And St. Senan’s

There were dramatic wins for Shannon and St. Senan’s in Division 2 South of the Women’s AIL yesterday.

Shannon scored a try in the last play of the game to beat Fermoy Lionesses 19-15 as they moved up to third in the table after three wins from their four fixtures.

Shannon struck the first try in this exciting encounter but Fermoy responded as Aine Firtear scored off a driving maul.

Fermoy then nudged in front thanks to an Aisling Waters try but a converted try by Shannon gave the visitors the lead once again.

Fermoy's Grace Fanning looked to have earned the win for her side from a strong driving maul but a third Shannon try in the last play of the game snatched the win.

In the weekend's only other women's game, St. Senan’s beat Ballincollig 12-7 in another closely fought contest which could have gone either way.

Lizzy Kelly converted her own try to give Ballincolling a 7-5 lead but Clare Hestor was the hero for Senan's as her late try kept the hosts in second place with three wins from four.

The score was Hestor's second try of the game with Rachael O'Brien adding a conversion.
