Waterpark Claim East Munster U-16 Cup

Waterpark RFC defeated Fethard RFC in Dungarvan last weekend to win the East Munster U-16 Cup and secure their third title of the season having earlier lifted the Munster Youths and East Munster U-16 League titles.

In a dour encounter played in difficult conditions, Waterpark dominated the early forward exchanges and the opening try was scored by impressive flanker Cormac Condren. Glenn Kavanagh kicked an excellent conversion from the touchline.

Fethard responded with a well taken opportunist try following some sloppy Waterpark defence which was converted and also added a further penalty when the Waterpark backs were adjudged to have strayed offside at a ruck on their 22.

Waterpark continued to pressurise the Fethard defence and hooker Sam Hogan touched down following an effective driving maul from a lineout inside the Fethard 22. Kavanagh failed with the conversion attempt but added a penalty leaving the score 15-10 at the interval.

Playing into a stiff breeze, Waterpark started the second half strongly and continued to attack with ball in hand and sustained pressure applied throughout the half as a result of intelligent support play and good ball retention yielded 4 penalties all kicked by Glenn Kavanagh and a try from Harry Donnelly. Fethard scored a late try to leave the final score 29-15.
