Wayne Falvey Appointed Munster Women’s Head Coach
30th June 2014 By Munster Rugby
Munster Rugby is delighted to announce the recent appointment of Wayne Falvey as the new Munster Senior Women’s Head Coach.
Wayne succeeds Gary Walsh who coached the Munster Women for three consecutive seasons claiming the Interprovincial title in 2012.
Originally from Ovens, Co. Cork, Wayne started his rugby career with local club Ballincollig RFC at Under 9’s and went on to play schools rugby with Christian Brothers College.
He continued his education at University College Cork winning the U20 All Ireland Cup in 2007 with UCC RFC. Wayne spent the next four years on the university senior squad that gained promotion to Division 1 of the All Ireland League in season 2010/11.
Currently playing senior rugby with Cork side Highfield RFC, Wayne also coached the club’s Junior 2 side that last season reached the league semi-final and won the Munster J2 Cup.
Having previously represented his province, the All Ireland League hooker has played at Munster Youths and Munster Schools Under 19s as well as representing his country with the Ireland Colleges and Ireland Universities.
“It is a huge honour and I am delighted to be appointed Munster Senior Women’s Coach for the coming season", said Falvey.
“This is a great opportunity to develop new players coming through while some of our squad will be taking part in the Women’s World Cup this August.
“I look forward to working with Aidan McNulty (backs coach) and the rest of the coaching staff that includes former Ireland international players Marie Barrett and Helen Brosnan as well as Strength and Conditioner Daniella Cunningham.”
Following a series of trial matches and skill sessions scheduled for this July, Wayne will name his squad in the coming weeks to take part in the Interprovincial Series set for September 2014.
