Weekend Club Preview
14th January 2015 By Munster Rugby
A quiet weekend on the Senior front but there is a full programme of games in the Munster Junior League.
There is only one game in the Ulster Bank All Ireland League which sees seventh-placed Sunday’s Well going head to head with Kanturk, who are 12th, under lights at Irish Independent Park on Friday evening.
The home side face a tricky assignment as they begin 2015 coming off the back of four successive wins as Kanturk, who are consolidating their AIL status have claimed bonus points from all but one of their previous games.
With just four rounds left in both Divisions 1 and 2 of the Munster Junior League, games are going to be crucial at both the top and bottom of each Division.
Leaders Newcastle West, who reclaimed pole position after defeating bottom side Kinsale last time out, face a tricky task as they travel to the Premier County to take on Kilfeacle, who are also aiming to finish in the top four.
Second-placed Clonmel will be looking to keep their title challenge on track as they entertain St Mary’s.
Muskerry and Skibbereen go head to head in a Cork derby at Ballyanly and both sides are aiming to keep their outside chances of All Ireland Junior Cup qualification intact.
Clonakilty will be looking to make the most of home advantage in their bid to finish in the top four as they welcome the other former AIL side Waterpark to The Vale.
Kinsale, who remain rooted to the foot of the table, will have their work cut out as they take on third-placed St Senan’s at the South Cork venue.
Cobh Pirates and Tralee lock horns in a basement clash at the East Cork venue and the home side will be aiming to claim maximum points in their bid to avoid the drop.
Galbally take on Old Christians at the County Limerick venue, with both sides aiming to preserve their top flight status.
In Division 2, runaway leaders Bandon will be expected to take all points as they welcome third-placed Thurles to Old Chapel.
Ballincollig face a tough assignment in their bid to avoid the drop as they host second-placed Clanwilliam at Tanner Park.
Presentation and Castleisland who are joint fifth on 24 points each lock horns at Rathuard.
Mallow, who were held to a 6-6 draw by Youghal in East Cork last time out face a tricky task as they take on Waterford City, who are coming off the back of a landslide victory over Crosshaven.
Youghal, who are hovering above the drop zone, will be looking to make the most of home advantage count in their bid to avoid the drop as they welcome Abbeyfeale to East Cork.
Bottom side Crosshaven are at home to Ennis and fellow strugglers Killarney are away to Newport.
The game of the day in Division 3 sees leaders Dungarvan taking on second-paced Charleville at Smith’s Road in a repeat pairing of the Martin O’Sullivan Cup decider, which was won by the North Cork side in Fermoy before Christmas. This will be a tough assignment for the West Waterford side as their winning run came to an end last time out in a 10-10 draw against Douglas.
Douglas will be aiming to keep their promotion aspirations intact as they entertain Bantry Bay in their final league game.
Fethard will be expected to take the points from their home meeting with Scarriff as they aim to build on their away win over Fermoy, which put the North Cork side out of the promotion race.
Fermoy travel to the Kingdom to take on Killorglin, with the Kerry side coming off the back of their first win of the campaign against Carrigaline at the South Cork venue.
