Weekend Club Preview

The Ulster Bank All Ireland League gets underway this weekend with a full programme of games across all five divisions.

The two Limerick sides in Division 1A open their accounts with home ties against Dublin opposition.
Last season’s semi-finalists Young Munster entertain Old Belvedere at Tom Clifford Park and Garryowen host former champions Lansdowne at Dooradoyle.

Last season’s runners-up, Cork Constitution, travel to the Capital to take on newly-promoted St Mary’s College at Templeville Road.

In Division 1B, Dolphin and UL Bohemian who both avoided relegation last term get proceedings underway as they lock horns at Irish Independent Park.

Shannon and Ballymena, who both finished in mid-table, go head to head at Thomond Park and newly-promoted UCC take on Old Wesley at the Mardyke.

All Munster sides in Division 2A begin their campaigns against Ulster opposition. New boys Highfield welcome Queen’s University to Woodleigh Park and Leeside neighbours Sunday’s Well, who were also promoted, travel to County Down to take on Banbridge.

Cashel host Malone at the Spafield and Premier County neighbours Nenagh Ormond are away to Belfast Harlequins.

Last season’s Division 2C champions, Old Crescent, take on Greystones in their Division 2B opener at Rosbrien.

Thomond, who were relegated, travel to Dublin to take on Wanderers at the Aviva Stadium.

Midleton and Kanturk open proceedings in a County Cork derby at Towns Park in Division 2C and Bruff travel to Drogheda to take on Boyne.

The Transfield Cup semi-finals are also down for decision this weekend. Richmond travel to the Banner County to take on St Senan’s in the first semi-final on Sunday and Shannon host Newcastle West at Coonagh on Monday evening.

In Kerry, the McElligott Cup gets underway with recently crowned champions Castleisland hosting Chorca Dhuibhne on Saturday evening and the winners will be rewarded with a home semi-final against Iveragh.

Killorglin host near neighbours Killarney on Sunday and the winners will be at home to Tralee.

The first silverware of the season is at stake in South Munster on Sunday as Dennehy Cup holders Highfield take on Cork Constitution at Woodleigh Park in a repeat of last year’s final.
