Weekend Club Preview And Fixtures
14th October 2014 By Munster Rugby
It is Cup action that dominates the weekend program at Senior and Junior level.
Bruff’s postponed Ulster Bank All Ireland League Division 2B is rescheduled for this weekend as they make the long trip north to take on Ards in a basement clash at Hamilton Park, with both sides seeking their first win of the campaign.
Munster Senior Cup holders for the past two years Cork Constitution begin their defence against Sunday’s Well at Temple Hill. The winners will be at home to Bruff or Midleton in the quarter finals.
Kanturk mark their debut in the competition with a home tie against Thomond. The Duhallow side will be looking to make life difficult for the visitors as they aim to progress to an away tie in the next round against Highfield or Young Munster, who are in action at Woodleigh Park.
Nenagh Ormond, who won the Cyril Fitzgerald Senior Plate for the past two seasons, will be looking to make the most of home advantage count as they welcome last year’s beaten finalists Garryowen to New Ormond Park. The winners will be at home to Old Crescent or Cashel, who lock horns at Rosbrien.
UL Bohemian host Richmond in a Limerick derby, with the winners at home to Shannon or Dolphin who go head to head at Coonagh.
St Mary’s begin their defence of the Munster Junior Clubs’ Challenge Cup with a tricky away tie against Kilfeacle. The winners will be rewarded with a home advantage in the quarter finals against St Senan’s or Kinsale who clash at Jimmy Slattery Park.
Division 1 leaders Newcastle West travel to Ballyanly to take on fellow pacesetters Muskerry. The winners will be away to Galbally or Cobh Pirates who meet at the County Limerick venue.
Skibbereen, who recorded their first win of the League campaign against St Mary’s at the Carbery Showgrounds last time out will be looking to make the most of home advantage count as they entertain Waterpark. The winners will be at home to Old Christians in the next round.
Crosshaven’s Junior Clubs’ Challenge Shield opener against Bandon at Myrtleville Cross is also doubling up as a league fixture. The West Cork side are early pace setters in the league and should have little difficulty in seeing off the Seasiders who are still seeking their first win. The winners will be away to Ennis or Castleisland in the Shield quarter finals. Ennis and ‘Island are meeting at the Banner County venue for the second successive weekend and the home side will be looking to make the most of home advantage in a bid to avenge last weekend’s 29-22 home league defeat.
Ballincollig and Abbeyfeale, who were both promoted to Division 2 go head to head at Tanner Park, with the winners away to Killarney or Clanwilliam who lock horns in the Kingdom.
Presentation take on Thurles at Rathuard with the winners at home to Youghal or Newport who meet in East Cork.
Carrigaline are at home to newcomers Fethard in the Martin O’Sullivan Cup and the winners will be away to Charleville in the quarter finals.
The other three quarter finals are down for decision as Fermoy entertain Bantry Bay at the Showgrounds. The winners of this tie will have a home semi-final against the winners of Charleville’s quarter final tie.
Dungarvan, who are currently top of Division 3 are at home to Killorglin and the West Waterford side previously recorded a 14-8 away win over the Kerry side on the opening day of the league campaign.
Douglas, who are second in Division 3 make the long trip to East Clare to take on Scariff and the winners will be at home to Dungarvan or Killorglin in the semi-finals.
