Weekend Club Preview And Fixtures
14th November 2014 By Munster Rugby
It is another weekend of league action in the Ulster Bank League, while it is a Cup weekend for the Junior clubs.
Proceedings get underway in Division 1B of the Ulster Bank League on Friday evening as Shannon, who are propping up the table, lock horns with UL Bohemian in a basement derby clash at Thomond Park.
In Division 2B, leaders Highfield host Kanturk in the first senior competitive game to be played under lights at Woodleigh Park.
On Saturday in Division 1A, Dolphin who are still without a win, make the long trip to County Down to take on Ballynahinch and after two successive draws, Dolphin feel this could be their chance to get a win.
Leeside neighbours Cork Constitution who are hovering above the drop zone are at home to the defending champions Clontarf, who are currently in fourth place.
Third-placed Young Munster travel to Dublin as they take on St Mary’ College, who are second from bottom at Templeville Road and the visitors will be hoping to make it three wins in a row..
Third-placed Garryowen entertain second-placed Ballymena at Dooradoyle in Division 1B and the home side will be looking to make the most of home advantage in their bid to return to the top flight as they are five points behind the County Antrim side.
In Division 2A, Thomond will be looking to continue their quest for a second successive promotion on track as they take on Skerries, who are in fifth place, at Liam Fitzgerald Park.
Nenagh Ormond welcome struggling City of Derry to New Ormond Park and Cashel are at home to UCC in a mid-table clash.
Third-placed Bruff face a tricky away assignment against fifth-placed Tullamore in their bid to make a quick return to Division 2A.
Midleton, who are in seventh-place in Division 2B, welcome struggling Boyne to East Cork. Richmond, who are still without a win, will have their work cut out as they lock horns with high flying Sligo at Richmond Park.
Sunday’s Well take on Old Crescent at Irish Independent Park, with both sides looking for a win to move away from the relegation zone.
The quarter finals of the Munster Junior Clubs’ Challenge Cup and Junior Clubs’ Challenge Shield are all down for decision on Sunday, together with the Martin O’Sullivan Cup semi finals.
Division 1 leaders Newcastle West travel to East Cork to take on struggling Cobh Pirates in the Junior Clubs Challenge Cup and the current league leaders should prove too strong for their hosts.
The winners will have a home semi final tie against Skibbereen or Old Christians, who go head to head at the West Cork venue.
Tralee, who are second from bottom, face a tricky task as they entertain second-placed Clonmel, with the winners meeting Kilfeacle or St Senan’s who lock horns at the Tipperary venue.
Bandon, who are runaway leaders in Division 2 travel to the Banner County to take on Ennis with the winners at home to promotion chasing Clanwilliam or Abbeyfeale, who meet in Tipperary Town.
Waterford City welcome Mallow to Kilbarry, where the winners will be rewarded with a home tie against Youghal, who are battling against relegation or promotion chasing Thurles, who face each other at the East Cork venue.
In the Martin O’Sullivan Cup semi-finals, Division 3 pacesetters Dungarvan travel to East Clare for the second time in a fortnight to take on Scariff and they will be looking to make it two wins from two over Scariff in a bid to reach the decider against Fermoy or Charleville who meet at the Showgrounds in a North Cork derby.
