Weekend Fixtures

Cup rugby dominates the weekend’s program at all levels this weekend.

There are three quarter final ties and one opening round game to be decided in the ODM Munster Senior Cup this weekend. The big game of the weekend is the meeting of Cork Constitution and holders Garryowen at Temple Hill. Both sides had big victories last week but Con’s victory over Dolphin must make them favourites to book a semi final spot.

Both Cashel and Old Crescent who both won away from home last week meet at the Tipperary venue. Cashel will have the edge after their 13-6 win over Bruff.

The other quarter final tie is between Sunday’s Well and U.L. Bohemian at Musgrave Park. Bohes fresh from their Limerick Charity Cup success did not have things all their own way against Nenagh Ormond last week winning 18-12. The ‘Well ran in four tries in their 32-14 home win over Clonakilty but it is the Limerick side who should book their place in the last four.

The remaining first round tie between Midleton and Shannon goes ahead at the Towns Park with a 4.30 kick off. Shannon will be expected to advance but an upset could be on the cards should Midleton rise to the occasion.

There is a new competition being introduced this year for the clubs defeated in the opening round of the ODM Munster Senior Cup and there are three ties listed for the ODM Cyril Fitzgerald Shield. Dolphin host Thomond at Musgrave Park and the Division 1A side will be expected to come through this encounter.

Bruff entertain Highfield and while the home side will be expected to advance they can expect a stiff examination from an ever improving Cork side.

Nenagh Ormond travel to Clonakilty and after a fine performance last week the Tipperary side should return home with the spoils.

There are games in all three of the Junior Clubs Cup competitions.
