Weekend Fixtures & Preview
8th October 2020 By Leonard Allen
The Irish Rugby Men’s and Women’s Community Series continue in Munster this weekend.
The number of club rugby matches have been reduced to mitigate Covid-19 risk, see full details here.
In Conference 1 of the Men’s Community Series, leaders Young Munster will be looking to maintain their unbeaten run as they entertain Garryowen in the match of the weekend following two maximum-point wins. The Sky Blues are on four points following their 22-22 draw with Highfield at Woodleigh Park on the opening day.
Cork Constitution and Cashel lock horns at Temple Hill with both sides going into the tie unbeaten following bonus point victories over Old Crescent and Shannon in their respective openers but the home side will be expected to take the spoils.
Shannon welcome Highfield to Coonagh with both sides seeking their first win as the Limerick side claimed two bonus points from their opening day defeat by Cashel, but were heavily defeated by UCC on Leeside last time out. Highfield were held to a 22-22 draw by Garryowen in their opener. Both sides need a win to boost confidence.
UCC will be looking to build on their maximum-point home win over Shannon as they welcome Old Crescent, who are propping up the table on zero points, to the Mardyke.
The students turned on the style last week and the visitors could be in for a difficult afternoon.
Conference 2 leaders Nenagh Ormond go into their home tie with UL Bohemian on the back of maximum-point wins over Clonmel and Midleton. UL Bohemian claimed maximum points from their opener against Dolphin, which they won on a 32-25 scoreline. The winner of this tie will be favourites to finish on top.
Sunday’s Well and Midleton are both seeking their first points as the Leesiders entertain Clonmel at Irish Independent Park and Midleton are away to second-placed Bruff.
In Conference 1 of the Munster Women’s Community Series, leaders UL Bohemian who recorded a comprehensive home win over Limerick neighbours Shannon-LIT, travel to the Kingdom to take on Kerry in Listowel. Kerry ran out 24-5 home winners over Ballincollig in their opener in Tralee but will have it all to do against a strong U.L. Bohemian side.
Shannon-LIT and Ballincollig go in search of their first points at Coonagh with the visitors badly needing a win after their surprise defeat in Tralee last week.
