Weekend Junior Rugby Round-Up

There were wins for Kilfeacle, Skibbereen and Tralee in the All Ireland Junior Cup at the weekend.

Tralee caused the biggest shock of the day in the All Ireland Junior Cup when they defeated Wanderers 10-6 at O’Dowd Park. Despite playing with the advantage of the elements the sides were level 3-3 at half time. Ciaran Crowley kicked a penalty for the Kerry side and Peter O’Sullivan equalised for Wanderers.
Ten minutes into the second half O’Sullivan edged the visitors ahead with a penalty but mid way through the half Garrett Walsh got in for a try for Tralee following a five meter scrum and he also converted.

Kanturk were the only Munster side to lose as they were defeated 10-9 in atrocious conditions at the Tyrone venue by Clogher Valley. Mark Healy kicked three penalties for Kanturk.

Skibbereen defeated Ballina 26-18. This game was moved to Clonakilty as a result of flooding in Skibbereen. David Shannon and Alan Jennings scored two tries each for the west Cork side and Hemi Taukiri got one. Ger Hurley kicked three penalties and a conversion.

Kilfeacle booked their place in the last eight with a 30-14 away win over OLBC in Galway. Brian Nugent scored two tries for the Tipperary side and Diarmuid Carr and Cormac O’Donoghue got one each. Gavin Heuston kicked two conversions and two penalties.

There only two games listed in the Munster Junior League. In Division Two Killarney had a 9-5 home win over Youghal. Scott O’Sullivan scored the game’s only try.

Carrick-on-Suir defeated Scariff 21-12 in Division Three. Charlie Boland scored a try, conversions and three penalties for the Tipperary side and John Carroll also scored a try. Scariff had tries from Declan Noonan and Ger Burke with Dan Downey adding one conversion.

Crosshaven defeated near neighbors Carrigaline 15-3 in the O’Neill Cup. Ian Smith kicked five penalties for the winners and Donnacha Kiely replied for the visitors.

Cork Constitution defeated Dolphin 48-3 in the Munster Seconds League South. Luke Cahill, Eoin O’Donnell, Gavin Duffy, Barry Fitzgerald, Conor Desmond and Sonny Dwyer all scored tries for the Temple Hill side and Thomas Quinlan converted all six and added two penalties.

In the Junior Two League South Muskerry defeated Dolphin 13-10 with tries from Jeff Murphy and George O’Mahony and a penalty by Cillian Masterson.

Tries from Ian Jones and TJ McSweeney helped Cobh Pirates to a 24-15 home win over Shandon. Jones also added three conversions and a penalty.

A try from Ben Cross and a penalty by Geoff Deegan helped Waterpark to an 8-3 win over Waterford City.

Kinsale defeated Clonakilty 17-14 with two tries from Andrew Kelly and a try and conversion from Eoin Kingston.

Bandon defeated Cork Constitution 13-7 with a try by Marios Cornelius and a conversion and two penalties from Andrew Willis. Cormac Fouhy replied with a try for Con’ and Simon Barry converted.

Mark Kavanagh scored two tries in Mitchelstown's 24-3 home win over Old Christians.
