Weekend Junior Rugby Round-Up

No shocks in the second series of games in Division 1 & 2 of the Munster Junior League as both Clonmel and Clonakilty fail to get a bonus point.

Clonmel won the Tipperary derby defeating Kilfeacle 31-0 in Division 1. A try from Alex Sheehan and a conversion and three penalties from Conor Cooney had Clonmel 16-0 ahead at the break. John Gallagher and Stephen Pike added further tries and Cooney added another penalty and a conversion.

Clonakilty had to battle all the way for their 7-3 away win over Cobh Pirates. Stephen Cotter scored a first half try and Joe Lee converted. Eamon Ronan replied with a second half penalty for the home side.

Newcastle West had a bonus point 37-20 home win over Waterpark to go joint top. Stephen Kelly scored three tries for the winners and Rossa Dooley, TJ Relihan and Sean Herlihy also crossed the white wash. Conor Whelan added two conversions and a penalty. David O’Donoghue and Darragh Joyce replied with tries for Waterpark and Kevin Butler kicked two penalties and two conversions.

Muskerry proved that last week’s win over St. Mary’s was no fluke as they travelled to Tralee and came away with an 18-11 victory. The visitors led 10-8 at half time. Jonathan Buckley and Joe Tracy scored tries for the winners and Buckley kicked two penalties and a conversion. Garrett Walsh replied with a try for the Kerry side and Ciaran Crowley added two penalties.

St. Mary’s bounced back from last week’s defeat to overcome Galbally 28-14 at Grove Island. Matthew Hickey, Stuart Lipper and John McNamara scored tries for the Saints and Sean Lyons added two conversions and three penalties. Jack Donovan and Kevin Casey replied with tries for Galbally and Sean Bourke converted both.

Second Division champions St. Senan’s recorded their first victory with a 30-20 home win over Skibbereen. Warren Kelly got in for two tries and Neil McDonogh and Emile Malaka got one apiece. Declan Rowe kicked two penalties and two conversions.

Old Christians defeated Kinsale 37-19 at Rathcooney. Darragh Daly, Alan O’Connell, Mark Gleeson, Ruadhan O’Deasuna and Sean Meaney were try scorers for the home side and Meaney kicked three conversions and two penalties. Kinsale had tries from Pat O’Regan, Richard Kingston and Ashley Black, with Sean Kingston converting two.

Clanwilliam have joined Bandon and Castleisland at the top of the Second Division after their 34-9 home win over Youghal. Dave Kinehan scored two tries for the Tipperary side and Bryan O’Rahilly, Gavin Hickey and Pauric Ryan got one each. Niall Leahy kicked three conversions and a penalty. Adam Malone replied with three penalties for the visitors.

Bandon got the better of Ballincollig 17-3 at Tanner Park with tries from Tom Ferguson and Aidan Slattery. Sean Óg Murphy converted both and Richard Walsh added a penalty. Kevin Doyle replied with a penalty for the home side.

Castleisland defeated Waterford City 19-0 with two tries from Kieran Downey and Shane Flynn got one. Connie Reynolds kicked two conversions.

Thurles had an 8-6 home win over Ennis to keep in touch with the leaders. Conor Cooney scored a try for the winners and Eoin Dwyer kicked a penalty.

Mallow travelled to Killarney and defeated the home side 23-13. A try from Mike Sweeney and a conversion and two penalties by Michael Flynn gave Mallow a 13-3 half time lead. Michael Sheahan kicked a penalty for the home side. Ed Healy scored a second try for the visitors and Flynn converted and added another penalty. Padraig Hallissey scored a try for the Kerry side and Sheahan converted and also added two penalties

Abbeyfeale defeated Presentation 15-14 with tries from Adam Roche and Liam O’Connor. Tom Hassett added a conversion and a penalty.

Crosshaven are still looking for their first win after they lost away to Newport 13-12. Eamon Ring and George Jagoe scored tries for Crosshaven and Dean Crowley added a conversion.

In the opening games in Division Three Douglas defeated Carrigaline 27-10. Alan Walsh scored two tries for Douglas and Denis Kelleher and Ryan Jordan got one. Eoin Philpott kicked two conversions and a penalty. Ray Donoghue and Niall Sheehan were Carrigaline try scorers.

Fethard made a winning debut in this competition with a 19-6 home win over Bantry Bay. Nick Hoyne, Declan Doyle and Brian Murphy scored tries for the Tipperary side and Alan Green replied with two penalties for the visitors.

Tries from Peter Stapleton, Ian Pratt, John McCarthy and Brian Murphy helped Fermoy to a 20-3 home win over Scariff. Conor McNamara kicked a penalty for the Clare side.

Dungarvan defeated Killorglin 14-8 with a try from Ed Flavin and three penalties by David Hickey.
