Weekend Junior Rugby Round-Up

Clonmel’s hopes of winning the All Ireland Provincial League series received a major setback as Shannon book their place in the final of the Munster Junior Cup.

Dundalk are now on course to win the All Ireland Provincial League title after their 24-8 home win over Clonmel. A win away to Connemara next Saturday will see them win the title and set up a play-off away to DLSP to decide who will be playing in the Ulster Bank League.

Dundalk were full value for their 24-8 victory. The home side dominated the opening half and led 10-3 at half time with a try from Tuipucoto Noku and a conversion and a penalty by Ultan Murphy. Conor Cooney replied with a penalty for Clonmel.

Tries from Tomas Campbell and James McConnon both converted by Murphy extended Dundalk’s advantage before Greg Carroll scored a consolation try for Clonmel.

Connemara have yet to register a score in this league, as they went down to Instonians 43-0.

Shannon are through to the Munster Junior Cup Final after a hard earned 19-13 home win over Kilfeacle.
Shannon led 9-3 at half time with three penalties from Ronan McKenna to one by James Hogan for Kilfeacle.

Hogan had to take over the kicking duties from Darren Lowry who was injured early in the game.
Shaun Horgan increased the home side’s lead with a try before a try from Ciaran Lowry and a conversion and penalty by Hogan closed the gap to 14-13. Kelvin Brown scored a late try to secure Shannon’s place in the final against either Clonmel or Young Munster.
