Weekend Junior Rugby Round Up

No change at the top of Division One of the Munster Junior League as Galbally lost for the first time and Clonmel were the only side to pick up a bonus point, but bottom side Thurles surprised Kilfeacle.

Skibbereen still head the table after their 20-9 away win over Old Christians. The home side led 9-7 at half time. Conor Mangan kicked three penalties for the Rathcooney side and Alan Dodd replied with a try and Ger Hurley converted. Alan Jennings scored a second try for the west Cork side after the break and Hurley kicked the conversion and also added two penalties.

Richmond remain in second place a point behind the leaders after their 19-17 away win over Crosshaven. Garrett O’Hanlon scored a try for Richmond and Jonathon Ford kicked a conversion and four penalties. Crosshaven replied with tries from Pete Morrissey, Donagh Murphy and Eamon Ring with Kieran Doran adding a conversion.

Waterpark defeated Galbally 17-11 at Ballinakill. The sides were level 6-6 at half time. John Flynn kicked two penalties for Waterpark and Liam McInerney replied with two for the visitors. A red card to a Galbally player proved the turning point of the game in the second half. Flynn kicked two further penalties for the home side and Paul Molloy scored a try. Brendan Childs replied with a try for Galbally.

Kanturk have moved up to third place after a penalty five minutes from time by Darragh Meade gave them a 13-10 away win over Tralee. The home side led 7-3 at half time with a try from Sean Hurley which Garret Walsh converted and Darragh Meade replied with a penalty for the Duhallow side. Walsh extended Tralee’s advantage with a penalty but a try by John O’Sullivan converted by Meade tied up the scores until Meade’s late winner.

Clonmel collected maximum points with a 24-5 away win over Cobh Pirates. Ben Martin put Clonmel ahead with a try after three minutes but Alan Langford had the sides level with a try shortly after. A try by Mark Jenkinson converted by Martin just before half time made it 12-5 at the break. Greg Carroll and David Lonergan added further tries in the second half and Martin kicked one conversion.

Thurles moved off the foot of the table with their first win of the campaign after a 14-12 home win over Kilfeacle. Laurence O’Gorman and Shane Fogarty scored tries for the winners and Jason Moore converted both. Dan Lowry and Packie Burke replied with tries for Kilfeacle and Mark Burke kicked a conversion.

St. Senan’s defeated Clanwilliam 23-11 to move above the Tipperary side in the table. Darragh McCoy and Ian Fitzgerald scored tries for the winners and Declan Collins converted both and also added three penalties. Brian O’Rahelly replied with a try for Clanwilliam and Brian Kissane kicked two penalties.

Mallow have opened up a five point gap in the Second Division with a flattering 35-7 home win over Scariff as the game between the two sides behind them in the table Youghal and Presentation was postponed.

A red card for a Scariff player in the second half turned the game in Mallow’s favour. The home side had tries from Jason Sheehan, Len Browne, Sam Holt, Dave Walsh and Michael Sweeney and Walsh converted all five. Tom Cronin replied with a try for the Clare side and James Kelly converted.

St. Mary’s moved into second place after their 16-12 away win over Ennis. Darren Clancy scored a try for the Saints and Sean Lyons converted and also added three penalties. Bryan Murphy replied with three penalties for Ennis and David Murphy kicked one.

Newcastle West maintained their challenge with a 19-13 home win over Killarney. The sides were level 10-10 at the interval. Sean Neville scored a try, conversion and three penalties for the winners and Alan Roche kicked one. Killarney replied with a try from Mike Nash and a conversion and two penalties from Paudie Sheahan.

Muskerry slipped into the relegation battle after their 32-12 home defeat by Kinsale. Peter Murphy, Joe Lyons, Renaud Sergeree and Paul Perez were try scorers for Kinsale and Perez added three conversions and two penalties. Jaydee Meyer and Conor Buckley replied with tries for the Ballyanly side and Buckley kicked a conversion.

Ballincollig eased their relegation worries with a 16-15 win over Bandon at Tanner Park. Two penalties by Kevin Ryan had Ballincollig 6-0 ahead at half time. Dave Power extended their advantage with a try which Ryan converted. Bandon hit back with tries from Richard Milner and Chris Hartnett and Sean O’Riordan kicked a conversion and penalty to lead 15-13 with eight minutes remaining. Ryan secured victory for the home side with a penalty five minutes from time.

Newport remain bottom of the table after their 24-13 away defeat by Castleisland. Kieran Downey scored two tries for the Kerry side and Kevin Lyons and Mike Cronin got one each. JJ Casey kicked two conversions. Shane Ryan replied with a try conversion and penalty for the visitors and Darragh Ryan kicked a drop goal.

Killorglin maintain their lead at the top of the Third Division after their 13-12 away win over Douglas. Barry Sheehan and Andrew O’Reilly scored tries for the winners and Dave Coffey kicked a penalty. Dave O’Callaghan replied with two tries for Douglas.

Dungarvan came from 6-0 down at half time to defeat Abbeyfeale 10-6. Cian Walsh scored a try for the visitors and Conor Foley added a conversion and penalty. Tom Enright kicked two penalties for Abbeyfeale.

Fermoy defeated Corca Dhuibhne 43-12. The visitors led 14-5 at the interval with tries from Jim Mackesy and Shane O’Riordan. O’Riordan converted both and also kicked a penalty. Brendan Garvey scored the Gaeltacht side’s try. Shane O’Donoghue, Peter Stapleton, Denis Howard and Ian Hutchinson added further tries after the break for teh North Cork side and O’Riordan kicked five conversions and a penalty. Billy O’Connor replied with a try for the West Kerry side and Kevin Moriarty kicked a conversion.

Charleville defeated Kilrush 20-8. Ger Sheehan and Willie O’Sullivan scored tries for Charleville and Frankie Holly kicked a conversion and two penalties and Shane Corkery also added a conversion. Philip Burke replied with a try for Kilrush and Brian Johnson kicked a penalty.

Dunmanway won the bragging rights in west Cork after their 22-3 home win over Bantry Bay. Darren Sweetnam scored a try and penalty for the winners and Dan Sweeny kicked a conversion and four penalties. Brian Keohane replied with a penalty for Bantry.
Dungarvan remain in second place after they defeated Abbeyfeale 10-6. Cian Walsh was Dungarvan’s try scorer and Conor Foley added a conversion and penalty.

Cork Constitution still remain on top of the South Munster Seconds League after their 25-14 home win over Dolphin. Neill O’Connell Peter O’Sullivan scored first half tries for the Temple Hill side for a 12-0 interval lead. O’Sullivan kicked one conversion. Niall Barry opened Dolphin’s account with a try and Brendan O’Shea converted. O’Sullivan and Danny O’Shea added further tries for Constitution and O’Sullivan added a penalty. Brian Roche scored a second try for Dolphin and Chris Bannon converted.

Castleisland defeated Kenmare 29-10 in the Junior Two League South. Padraig Dignam scored two tries for the winners and Dan Dunleavy one. James Dignam kicked four penalties and a conversion. Kenmare replied with a try from David O’Brien and a conversion and penalty by AJ Christian.

Dolphin defeated U.C.C. 27-0 at the Mahon. Brian O’Sullivan scored two tries for the winners and Wayne Ryan, Martin Aherne and Killian Walsh got one each. Aidan Uniacke kicked one conversion.
