Garryowen booked their place in the quarter finals of the Munster Junior Cup and in the Munster Junior League, Galbally and St. Senan’s look like they could be relegated from Division One.

There was a dramatic finish to the Munster Junior Cup tie at Dooradoyle as a last minute penalty try gave Garryowen a place in the quarter finals of the Munster Junior Cup with a 28-27 victory over Young Munster. Tries from Derry O’Connor and Shane O’Leary and two conversions by O’Leary gave Munster’s a 14-12 half time lead. A second try by O’Connor and a conversion and two penalties by O’Leary looked like seeing the visitors advance, but bad discipline which saw “The Cookies” having three player’s yellow carded and the conceed a penalty try saw the home side advance.

Three of the five sides trying to avoid finishing in the relegation places in Division One of the Munster Junior League all won as the top Division was completed. Clonmel travelled to Tralee and defeated the home side 28-22. Tries from Conor Cooney and Morgan Lyons and a Cooney penalty gave Clonmel a 13-8 half time lead. The Home side had a try and penalty from Dan Clark. Mark Jenkinson and Greg Carroll scored further tries for the visitors and Cooney kicked a conversion and a penalty. Tralee replied with tries from Clark and Eoin Murphy with Clark converting both.

Old Christians defeated Kilfeacle 22-20 to keep their First Division status. Jack Barry, Darragh Daly and Aidan Ware scored tries for the winners and Stuart Lee kicked a conversion, penalty and drop goal. Kilfeacle had tries from Charles Walsh, Diarmuid O’Donnell, Diarmuid Carr and Shane Morrissey which saw them secure two bonus points to finish in third place.

St. Senan’s and Galbally survival in the top flight depends on what happens in the Ulster Bank League and the Round Robin. If no Munster team are relegated from the AIL, then Galbally will avoid the drop but St. Senan’s would also need for Richmond to gain promotion to senior rugby if they are to survive.

St Senan’s went down to their heaviest defeat of the season when they lost at home to Kanturk 63-20. The winners ran in nine tries. Peter Earlie, Luke McCabe and Paul Cotter got two each, Darragh Meade scored one and kicked seven conversions, Mark Healy got a try and two conversions and John Duggan also scored. Stephen Ryan and Thomas Ryan replied with tries for the Clare side who were also awarded a penalty try and Declan Collins kicked a conversion and a penalty.

Galbally lost away to Newcastle West 32-25. The winners had the bonus point wrapped up by half time as they led 29-12 with two tries from James Kelly and a try each by Karl Hayes and Niall Kennedy. Alan Roche kicked three conversions and a penalty. Sean Neville added a penalty after the break for the winners, Galbally had tries from Jack Hogan, James Taylor and Jamie Hedigan and Craig Airey kicked two conversions and two penalties.

Champions Richmond had to rely on a last minute try from Gareth O’Hanlon to defeat local rivals St. Mary’s 19-18 at Corbally. James Kelly also scored a try for the winners and Dara Clancy kicked three penalties. Brian Purcell and Barry Gibbons replied with tries for the Saints and Ben Sargent kicked two penalties and a conversion.

The meeting of the two relegated clubs Crosshaven and Clanwilliam resulted in a 27-22 away win for the Tipperary side. Neil Costigan, Gavin Ryan, David McCormack and David Quinlan scored tries for Clanwilliam and Robert Doyle kicked two conversions and a penalty. Eamon Ring Rory Holfer and Darren O’Keeffe scored tries for the Seasiders and Ian Smyth added a penalty and two conversions

Mallow look certain to be playing in Division 1 of the Munster Junior League next season as they completed their Division Two program with a 19-3 away win over Carrick-on-Suir. The visitors led 12-3 at half time with tries from Andy Cashman and Leonard Browne, with Cashman converting one. James Wallace kicked a penalty for Carrick’. Browne added a second try which Cashman converted.

Castleisland ended neighbours Killarney’s hopes of promotion with a 21-16 home victory. TJ Casey, Shane O’Connell and Daniel Casey scored tries for the winners and Connie Reynolds kicked two conversions. John Friel replied with a try for Killarney and Paudie Sheahan kicked a conversion and three penalties.

The only thing preventing Mallow from going up is that if Castleisland were to beat Muskerry in their final game with a bonus point and Muskerry were also to pick up two bonus points from that game. This would result in all three sides being equal on points.

Dungarvan are relegated to the Third Division following their 55-9 home defeat by Presentation. Alan Airey scored two tries for Pres’ and Ken Grainey, Shane O’Brien, Craig Phair, Stephen Hayes, Eoin Lynch and Ger Clancy got one each. Mark Phair kicked six conversions and a penalty. Conor Foley replied with three penalties for the home side.

Newport look like they will also be relegated after they lost 13-11 away to Thurles. Mark Cummins and Frank Bannon scored tries for Thurles and Ian Stanley kicked a penalty. Shane Ryan replied with a try and a drop goal for Newport and Philip O’Brien kicked a penalty.

Youghal defeated Bandon 13-5 with tries from Gary McArdle and Pat O’Shea and Jonathon Ormond kicked a penalty. Tom Ferguson replied with a try for the visitors.

Ennis defeated Kinsale 23-22. Conor Dolan scored a try, conversion and a penalty for Ennis, Sean Flanagan and Paddy Harding each got a try and Dave Murphy kicked a conversion and penalty. Kinsale picked up two bonus points as they had tries from Joe Lyons, Ben Alary, Stephen Coleman and Frazer Hogdson and Peter Murphy kicked a conversion.

Division Three leaders Killorglin lost at home to Abbeyfeale 19-11. Robert Browne scored a try for the winners, Dave Collins kicked a drop goal and Thomas Enright kicked a conversion and three penalties. Chris O’Sullivan replied with a try for Killorglin and Luke O’Shea kicked two penalties.

Ballincollig kept their promotion hopes alive with a 25-5 away win over Dunmanway-Bantry Bay. Kevin Ryan, Dave Power, Ian O’Malley and Glen Murphy scored tries for the winners and Ryan kicked a conversion and a penalty. Ryan Morrissey replied with a try for the home side.

Charleville completed their campaign and recorded their first win with a 31-12 home win over Kilrush. Kieran Brown scored three tries for the North Cork side, Brian Buckley also got a try and Ryan Brennan scored a try and three conversions. Paudie Conway replied with two tries for Kilrush and Brian Saunders kicked a conversion.

In South Munster Carrigaline, Kanturk and Muskerry all picked up silverware.
Carrigaline won the Junior Two League South for the first time with a 10-0 win over Cork Constitution at the Mahon. Playing with the wind in the opening half a try by John Tait on the stroke of half time converted by Sean Lucey made it 7-0. Carrigaline had to defend for long periods in the second half but a penalty from Lucey secured victory.

Kanturk won the George O’Connell Cup with a 23-14 win over Clonakilty at Musgrave Park. Cormac O’Keeffe and Cormac Galvin scored tries for Kanturk and Stephen McAuliffe kicked two conversions and three penalties.

Muskerry won the Junior Three B League South title with a 38-6 home win over Bandon.
