Weekend Preview

There is one game in Division 1B of the Men’s All-Ireland League, as well as a full program of games in the Men’s Munster Junior League and the Munster Women’s League.

In Division 1B of the Men’s AIL, Highfield and Dublin University go head to head at Woodleigh Park, as last week’s game was postponed due to the bad weather. Highfield are looking to bounce back from their 39-14 defeat by neighbours UCC at the Mardyke. Dublin University, who were relegated last season, are propping up the table and seeking their first points, following their 43-19 home defeat to Old Belvedere.

On Saturday afternoon, Muskerry welcome Crosshaven to Ellis Park in Division 1 of the Men’s Munster Junior League. The Sky Blues go into the tie on the back of a 24-18 away win over Clonakilty, while Crosshaven picked up two bonus points with a late rally, as they scored four tries in their 29-26 defeat by Richmond in Limerick.

Defending champions Thomond, who have maximum points from their two games to date, lock horns with 2023 champions Richmond, in a Limerick City derby at Liam Fitzgerald Park. Thomond go into the tie on the back of a comprehensive 44-8 home win over Sunday’s Well, while Richmond also claimed all points on offer from their 29-26 home win over Crosshaven.

On Sunday, Bandon entertain near neighbours Clonakilty in a West Cork derby at Old Chapel. Bandon ran out 34-30 away winners over Thurles last time out, while Clonakilty claimed a losing bonus point from the 24-18 home defeat by Muskerry.

It is also derby day in the Premier County as Kilfeacle go head to head with Thurles at the West Tipperary venue. Kilfeacle claimed a losing bonus point from their 12-8 defeat by Newcastle West in West Limerick. Thurles claimed two bonus points from their 34-30 home defeat by Bandon, as they scored four tries.

Sunday’s Well are seeking their first points of the campaign as they host Kanturk at Virgin Media Park. Sunday’s Well were defeated 44-8 by Thomond in Limerick, while the Duhallow side claimed a losing bonus point from their 15-10 home defeat by St Mary’s.

Skibbereen go in search of their first win, as they entertain 2022 champions Newcastle West at the Carbery Showgrounds. Skibbereen claimed a bonus point from their 33-24 defeat by Mallow in North Cork, as they scored four tries. The West Limerick side go into the tie on the back of a narrow 12-8 home win over Kilfeacle.

St Mary’s welcome Mallow to Grove Island. Both sides recorded their first victories of the campaign last time out. St Mary’s ran out 15-10 away winners over Kanturk, while Mallow claimed all points on offer as they defeated Skibbereen 33-24 in North Cork.

Tralee, who are unbeaten leaders in Division 2, welcome Charleville, who are seeking their first win, to the Kingdom. The Kerry side go into the tie on the back of a narrow 7-5 away win over Fermoy, while Charleville were defeated 17-3 at home by Old Christians.

Ennis, following their 40-36 defeat by St Senan’s in a Clare derby, welcome Cobh Pirates to the Banner County. Ennis claimed two bonus points in their previous clash as they scored six tries. The Pirates go into the tie on the back of a narrow 23-22 defeat by Castleisland in Kerry, from which they returned with a losing bonus point.

Fethard will be looking to get back to winning ways, as they welcome Fermoy to South Tipperary. Fethard were narrowly defeated 36-32 by Waterpark on Suirside, where Fethard claimed two bonus points, as they scored four tries. Fermoy claimed a losing bonus point from their narrow 7-5 home defeat by Tralee.

Ballincollig will be looking to make the most of home advantage as they entertain Waterpark in a bid to make it two wins from two. Ballincollig claimed all points on offer from their 43-21 away win over Abbeyfeale, while Waterpark also recorded a 36-32 bonus point victory over Fethard at Ballinakill.

Old Christians face a tricky task, as they welcome St Senan’s to Rathcooney. The Clare side defeated Ennis 40-36 in a Banner County derby, which produced 12 tries last time out, where they claimed all points on offer. Old Christians ran out 17-3 away winners over Charleville.

Clanwilliam, who recorded a 38-10 maximum-point home win over Kinsale last time out, welcome Castleisland to Tipperary Town. Castleisland go into the tie on the back of a narrow 23-22 home win over Cobh Pirates.

Bottom side Kinsale go in search of their first points, as they welcome Abbeyfeale to South Cork. Kinsale were defeated 38-10 by Clanwilliam in Tipperary Town, while the West Limerick side go into the tie on the back of 43-21 home defeat by Ballincollig.

Youghal, who were the only side to record a bonus point win in Division 3, are at home to Douglas, following their 38-14 victory over Scariff in East Clare. Douglas claimed a losing bonus point from their 23-20 home defeat by Ardscoil Old Boys.

Ardscoil Old Boys entertain Killarney at the UL Arena. Ardscoil Old Boys recorded a narrow 23-20 away win over Douglas last time out, while Killarney claimed a losing bonus point from their 20-14 home defeat by Carrick-on-Suir.

Carrick-on-Suir face Kerry opposition for the second successive week. They welcome Killorglin, who are beginning their campaign, to Tybroughney. Carrick-on-Suir go into the tie on the back of a 20-14 victory over Killarney in the Kingdom.

Chorca Dhuibhne welcome Dungarvan to the West Kerry Gaeltacht. Chorca Dhuibhne ran out 20-14 away winners over Galbally-Mitchelstown, while Dungarvan recorded a 20-10 home win over Waterford City.

Waterford City and Scariff, who both lost their opening games, go head to head on Suirside. Waterford City were defeated 20-10 by Dungarvan in West Waterford, while Scariff were defeated 38-14 by Youghal in East Clare.

The Munster Women’s League gets underway as Dolphin entertain Skibbereen-Bantry Bay in Division 1 at Virgin Media Park.

In Division 2 Pool A, Ennis-Kilrush are at home to Bruff and Thurles welcome UL Bohemian to the Premier County.

There are also two games in Division 2 Pool B as Mallow host Clonakilty at the North Cork venue and Midleton go head to head with Ballincollig at Towns Park.
