Weekend preview 28th November

There is only one senior competitive game scheduled this weekend, but a full program of Junior League matches are down for decision weather permitting.

Dolphin and Galwegians meet in Musgrave Park in the quarter final of the AIB All Ireland Cup at Musgrave Park. Both sides will be anxious that the game goes on as both have suffered because of weather in the past few weeks.

Galwegians will be expected to be at full strength as none of their Connacht players will be tied up this weekend, so this will be a big test for Dolphin who may have to plan without their Munster contingent.

Cork Constitution have received a walk over from Queens University in a game that was scheduled for temple hill this weekend.

There are some Senior Friendly ties listed for the weekend. On Friday night at Bruff the home club host Young Munster. On Saturday Highfield play Sunday’s Well, Shannon host Thomond at Coonagh and U.C.C. play U.L. Bohemian at Curaheen Road. All these games kick off at 12.00.

Cashel will be hoping to book their place in the semi final of the AIB All Ireland Junior Cup when they play Monivea in Cashel on Sunday. Monivea have shown excellent form this season and will be one of the favorites to lift the trophy with their players eager to get some honours at a national level following their recent dominance of the Connacht League. The Tipperary side will have to put in a big performance if they are to advance.

Richmond the leaders in Division 1 of the Munster Junior League will hope to at least maintain their four point advantage at the top when they travel to Cobh Pirates. The east Cork side are rebuilding this season after losing several of their squad to senior clubs and this test might be a bit much for these young players.

Waterpark and Tralee the sides in joint second palce four points behind the leaders face difficult away ties.

Tralee travel to Clonmel hoping to keep the pressure on the leaders. Clonmel are going through a difficult stage with several of their squad out injured and after some poor results in recent weeks they will be anxious to get back to winning ways and move away from the danger zone.

Waterpark face a long trip west as they play Skibbereen. The Cork side have yet to register a win but possess plenty of talent at their disposal. They will be hell bent on upsetting their visitors who have recovered well from relegation from the AIL and will be eager to keep their promotion push alive.

Ballincollig play Thurles at Tanner Park in what was seen at the start of the season as a big game in the relegation battle. Ballincollig have surprised everyone with wins over St. Senan’s and Crosshaven, while Thurles were very impressive two weeks ago with a deserving win over Clonmel. The home side will be full of confidence and could record their third win of the campaign which would move them into a challenging position behind the leaders.

Kilfeacle host Crosshaven in the only other tie in the top division. Crosshaven are struggling and look in grave danger of being relegated. They have already lost to Kilfeacle at home in the Cup earlier in the season and they would do well to pick up a losing bonus point from this tie.

In the second Division Galbally can go top of the Second Division if they can see off the challenge of Newcastle West in front of their own supporters. This has been a great season for Galbally since winning promotion last season for the first time from the Third Division and they will be expected to continue their unbeaten run.

Newport play hosts to Muskerry with the points crucial as both sides aim to maintain their promotion challenge. This has the makings of being a forward battle with the kickers on both sides likely to decide it.

Old Christians play Bandon at Rathcooney and after two defeats the home side desperately need to win to get back in the race for promotion. Bandon after a poor start have defeated St. Mary’s and Ennis and will feel confident of getting something from this tie.

In section A of the Third Division leaders Castleisland should pick up maximum points for the fifth time when they travel to Scariff.

The two sides behind them six points adrift of top place, Presentation and Killarney meet at Rathuard in what will be a crucial game for both sides.

Corca Dhuibhne host Abbeyfeale and a defeat for either side could put and end to their promotion chances.

Killorglin will be hoping to pick up their first win of the campaign when they play Kilrush at the Kerry venue.

In Section B leaders Waterford City who were surprisingly beaten by Douglas last week face one of their main challengers when they host Charleville.

Two of the other sides battling it out for promotion Fermoy and Mallow meet at Fermoy in a North Cork derby, with the visitors badly needing a victory to maintain their challenge.

Douglas boosted by that win last week face a difficult tie at home to Carrick-on-Suir, while Shandon and Dungarvan go head to head at Whitechurch in a bottom of the table clash.
