Weekend Preview
18th January 2018 By Leonard Allen
The Bank of Ireland Munster Senior Challenge Cup decider is the only Senior game on a quiet weekend with a handful of games at Junior level.
Garryowen and UL Bohemian lock horns in the Bank of Ireland Muster Senior Cup decider at the Markets Field on Friday evening.
The Sky Blues, who hold the record for the most number of wins will be seeking their 39th title, while UL Bohemian’s last success was in 1962.
Both sides will be anxious for a win as they prepare to get their All Ireland campaigns back on track and a close contest can be expected.
There are two ties down for decision in the Bank of Ireland Munster Junior Cup as Clonakilty welcome Tralee to the Vale and Fethard are at home to Mitchelstown.
There is a Tipperary derby in Division 1 of the Munster Junior League which sees Clonmel hosting Clanwilliam.
Defending champions Clonmel have slipped to fifth palace following their defeat by Bandon in West Cork last time out, with their aspirations of a fourth successive title taking a major setback.
They will be looking to make the most of home advantage count in a bid to grind out a maximum point and move into second place behind leaders Richmond.
The Tipperary Town side are eighth following a run of successive defeats by Richmond and Kilfeacle, with their last win coming against Kanturk on home turf in late November.
In Kerry, holders Castleisland and Killorglin lock horns in the second semi-final of the McElligott Cup in Tralee.
This is a repeat of last season’s final which Castleisland won 31-11 at the same venue in September. Tralee await the winners in this season’s decider.
