Weekend Preview 3rd April

The remaining back log of fixtures in the AIB All Ireland League will be played this weekend as the all Tipperary clash in the Munster Junior Clubs Challenge Cup Final is the center piece of the Junior rugby action.

Cork Constitution can go back to the top of Division 1A of the AIB All Ireland League with a win over U.L. Bohemian at Annacotty following last week’s defeat by St. Mary’s College. U.L. caused a surprise last week at Dooradoyle with a 16-13 victory. To stay in this Division U.L. need a bonus point victory to keep their hopes alive but it looks like that the Limerick side will be relegated after this encounter.

Bruff only need four points from their last two games to clinch promotion to the First Division. They can achieve this with a victory at home to Malone this weekend or else they will have to put their celebrations on hold until they visit Clonakilty next week.

Old Crescent battling relegation have newly crowned champions Lansdowne as visitors to Rosbrien and they are unlikely to stop the Dublin side from making it fourteen wins on the trot.

Shannon and U.C.C. clash in the All Ireland Under 21 Cup semi final at Coonagh with the winners to face either St. Mary’s College or Lansdowne next week in the decider. College will start as favourites especially after their 50-7 win earlier in the league.

Clonmel and Kilfeacle meet at Cashel to decide the destination of this season’s Junior Clubs Challenge Cup. Both sides were disappointed with their league performances even though Kilfeacle finished in fourth place and Clonmel who were seen as one of the main challengers faded away due to injury.
Both sides seem to be getting back into top form and it should be very close game with Clonmel looking to win their first major provincial title.

In the Munster Junior Plate Bandon host Highfield and after both sides had big wins last week, Highfield will be confident of booking a place in the semi finals.

Kinsale are at home to Thomond. The home side will have to be at their best if they hope to overcome the Limerick side’s challenge.

The two semi finals of the Munster Junior Bowl should also be decided. On Saturday Dungarvan who are showing a revival this season will have it all to do to stop Newport from reaching the decider.

The other semi final is a North Cork derby with Fermoy hosting Charleville and the visitors will be expected to advance to the decider.

Killarney will be expected to qualify for the Division Three semi finals of the Munster Junior League with a home win over Corca Dhuibhne.

There are three finals to be decided locally. U.L. Bohemian play Richmond in the Transfield Cup at Annacotty. The defending champions are unbeaten this year and will start favourites to retain the title. Richmond disappointed at losing to Monivea last week in the All Ireland Provincial League have a number of injuries and will probably be fielding a very under strength side.

Shannon and Old Crescent meet in the McInerney Cup Final at Coonagh on Saturday and the home side will start as favourites to win this trophy.

On Sunday at Musgrave Park Dunmanway and Cobh Pirates meet in the Junior Two League South Final. Dunmanway went down to their first defeat of the season last week when U.C.C. defeated them but will be expected to lift the trophy for the third time.

Cork Constitution should book their place in the semi finals of the Munster Seconds League with a home win over Bruff.

Clanwilliam host Carrick-on-Suir in the semi final of the Manseragh Cup and should advance.
