Weekend Preview | Bank of Ireland Senior Challenge Cup Gets Underway

Munster's Billy Holland & Clavin Nash make the Bank of Ireland Senior Challenge Cup draw with Bertie Smith, Rugby Committee Chairman, at the Bank of Ireland, UL Branch.

The 2018/19 season gets well and truly underway this weekend with action in the newly formatted Bank of Ireland Munster Senior Challenge Cup and the Munster Junior League Cup.

There are five ties in the opening round of the Bank of Ireland Munster Senior Cup down for decision on Saturday.

Sunday’s Well host Bruff at Irish Independent Park and the winners who get a bye in Round Two will be at home to Shannon in the quarter-finals.

UL Bohemian welcome Cashel to Annacotty and the winners will be rewarded with home advantage against either Midleton or Dolphin, who lock horns in East Cork.

Highfield and Nenagh Ormond go head to head at Woodleigh Park, with both sides also aiming to challenge for promotion from Division 2A of the All Ireland League. The winners will travel to Limerick to take on Old Crescent or Thomond, who meet at Rosbrien in Round Two.

The Munster Junior League Cup campaign gets underway on Saturday.

In Section 1 North, Young Munster entertain Old Crescent in a Limerick City derby at Tom Clifford Park and Bruff host Garryowen at Kilballyowen Park.

Shannon and UL Bohemian go head to head at Coonagh in Section 2 North and Nenagh Ormond welcome Thomond to North Tipperary.

Cashel begin their campaign in Section 1 South against UCC at the Spafield and Dolphin and Sunday’s Well lock horns at Irish Independent Park in Section 2 South.

Newcastle West continue their defence of the Transfield Cup as they welcome St Mary’s to West Limerick. The winners will be at home to Richmond in the second semi-final.

The first semi-final sees St Senan’s hosting Abbeyfeale at Jimmy Slattery Park.

At Junior 2 level, the McInerney Cup gets underway in North Munster, while proceedings in South Munster begin in both the Dennehy Cup and O’Sullivan (Muskerry) Cup.
