Weekend Preview

Another busy weekend of action in the Ulster Bank League as well as some vital cup games in the Munster Junior Cup.

Proceedings in the Ulster Bank League gets underway on Good Friday afternoon in Division 1A at Clifford Park 3.30 kick off when bottom side U.L. Bohemian travel to face Young Munster. Both sides are going through a poor patch and could do with a win for different reasons.

There are also two other local derbies down for decision as Shannon will be looking to make the most of home advantage at Thomond Park, kick off 7.30 against Garryowen in their battle against relegation and Dolphin entertain Cork Constitution at Musgrave Park.

On Saturday Lansdowne will be looking to win their first AIL title and become only the third Dublin Club to win the competition in its 22-year history as they take on Clontarf at the Aviva Stadium and this game is being televised live on RTE. A draw will be enough for the leaders to start celebrating.

In Division 1B Bruff and Ballymena go head to head in their basement clash at Eaton Park. The South Limerick side will be looking to make it two wins out of two over Ballymena as they defeated the North Antrim side 25-6 on the opening day of the campaign in September at Kilballyowen Park.

UCC will have their work cut out in Division 2A as they entertain second-placed Corinthians at the Mardyke and struggling Midleton make the long trip up north to take on fourth-placed City of Derry at Judge’s Road.

Old Crescent travel to Killiney to take on Seapoint and Highfield are away to Old Wesley in a mid-table clash.

Thomond face a tricky task as they bid to take another step closer to safety in Division 2B when they take on leaders Rainey Old Boys at Hatrick Park.

Fellow strugglers Clonakilty are at home to second-placed Naas and the West Cork side will have their work cut out as they bid to avoid a play-off with the second-placed team in the Round-Robin series.

Sunday’s Well entertain Boyne in their final home game at Musgrave Park and Nenagh Ormond are away to Suttonians.

There are three quarter finals ties in the Munster Junior Cup down for decision on Easter Sunday.

Holders Cork Constitution continue their defence of the trophy with an away tie against Kilfeacle and Munster Junior League champions Richmond are away to Clanwilliam.

Munster Junior Clubs’ Challenge Cup holders Kanturk take on Garryowen at the Duhallow venue.

There is one tie outstanding from the previous round which sees last year’s finalists Skibbereen taking on Muskerry at the Carbery Showgrounds, with the winners away to Highfield in the fourth quarter final.
Killorglin, who have secured their first ever promotion as champions of Division 3 will be looking to make the most of home advantage count as they take on near neighbours Killarney in the first semi final of the Munster Junior Plate, while the visitors will be looking to take another step closer to regaining the trophy they won two years ago.

Bruff are at home to Thurles in the quarter finals with the winners away to Castleisland in the second semi final.

Waterford City, who were promoted to Division 2 of the Junior League in second place behind Killorglin take on Scariff in the Junior Bowl Final at Thurles. This is the first of two deciders for City as they are also due to meet Abbeyfeale in the Martin O’Sullivan Cup final.
