Weekend Preview

ODM Munster Senior Cup quarter finals to be decided this weekend.

Only two of the scheduled quarter final ties are going ahead. The Dolphin Shannon tie has been postponed and Cashel have given Young Munster a walk over in the other tie.

Of the ties that are going ahead holder’s Cork Constitution play Thomond at Temple Hill. The home side will be quietly confident of advancing but can expect a stiff challenge from the Limerick side. Thomond will remember their last visit to this venue in the Cup, when they defeated the home side 9-0 back in 2002.

The other tie sees U.C.C. take on U.L. Bohemian at the Mardyke. The Limerick side have made a great start to the season and are unbeaten, while College only played their first game last week and had a deserved away win against Midleton. The visitors look like they should book their place in the last four.

All sixteen clubs in the Third Division of the Munster Junior League will all be in action this weekend when the opening round of the Martin O’Sullivan Cup will be played. Due to the All Ireland Football Final four of these ties have been scheduled for Saturday.

The Kerry Local derby between Killarney and Castleisland has been switched to Castleisland. This should be a cracker of a tie and home advantage could give Castleisland the edge.

There are two newcomers to Junior rugby this season. Shandon are at home to Abbeyfeale and could find their visitors a difficult proposition, while Corca Dhuibhne travel to Dungarvan confident of recording a victory.

Also on tomorrow is the Douglas and Killorglin tie with both sides desperate for a win ahead of the league campaign.

On Sunday Carrick-on-Suir travel to Kilrush and should make their trip a winning one. Presentation will hope to bounce back after their mid week defeat by Thomond with a home win over Mallow.

In the other two remaining ties both home sides will be confident of victory as Charleville take on Scariff and Fermoy meet Waterford City.

Clonmel and Galbally meet on Saturday night at Kilfeacle in the final of the Garryowen Cup but the odds must be on a Clonmel victory.

Thomond travel to Annacotty on Sunday, kick off 1.30 in the semi final of the Transfield Cup but the holders U.L. Bohemian will be expected to reach the decider.

Kinsale and Youghal meet in the Cork County Cup with the East Cork side expected to continue their good run with another victory.

Thurles and Clanwilliam meet in the Mansergh Cup, while in Cork the two Dennehy Cup semi finals should be decided. Cork Constitution will be strong favourites to reach another final at home to Carrigaline and there should be little to separate Highfield and Sunday’s Well who meet at Woodleigh Park.
