Weekend Preview
25th April 2019 By Leonard Allen
The All Ireland League play-off series continues with four Munster clubs involved and the Junior Interprovincial Series gets underway.
In the Junior Interprovincial series, Munster get proceedings underway as they take on defending champions Leinster at the Carbery Showgrounds in Skibbereen on Saturday.
The All Ireland League Division 1A and 1B play-offs also get underway.
In Division 1A, Cork Constitution host Dublin University at Temple Hill on Sunday. The Leesiders won 24-13 when these sides met at Temple Hill in October, while the Dublin Students ran out 37-13 home winners in March.
UCC welcome Malone to the Mardyke in their semi-final of the Division 1B Promotion play-off series. A win for College would see them face either Old Wesley or Naas the following week at the Mardyke.
Bruff are at home to Malahide in the Divison 2C promotion play-off. Games between these sides produced home winners with Bruff running out 32-17 winners at Kilballyowen Park in January, while the County Dublin side won the corresponding fixture 19-14 in December.
Clonmel, who won their fourth Munster Junior League title in five years, travel to Killarney to take on Seapoint. With Thomond having been relegated to Junior ranks, the outcome of this game will have implications for Galbally and Thurles.
These sides will remain in their respective divisions of the Junior League next season, should Clonmel win, while defeat will see the County Limerick side relegated from Division 1 with Kanturk and St Mary’s.
Failure by Clonmel to qualify for the All Ireland League will see Premier County neighbours Thurles relegated to Division 3 with Youghal and Waterford City.
On the local scene, Ardscoil Rís Old Boys play Old Crescent in the Webb Cup final at Grove Island on Friday evening, while Irish Independent Park hosts both the South Junior 3 Cup Final (Clonakilty v Kinsale) and Dave Dineen Cup Final (Mallow v Muskerry) on Sunday.
